It allowed prospects from the state of Illinois to compete against high level competition from around the country and play in front of college coaches while gaining tons of media exposure. Time for us to unveil our All-Class Teams for the state. To be eligible for these prospects must have played in a minimum of two PHC events. Here is the Prep Hoops Circuit: Class of 2022 All-Illinois Team!
1st Team
Kam Craft Kam Craft 6'5" | SF TSF | 2022 State #54 Nation GA (Meanstreets)
The MVP of the 2022 class is this Meanstreets star. He came into the spring as a top 10 player in the state and left as a highly coveted high-major recruit. At Chi-Town Tip Off he was phenomenal. Scored on threes, off balance jumpers, and got to the rim with ease. Three level scorer that elevated his stock greatly with his two performances at Chi-Town Tip Off and The Platform. Xavier got a good one!
Tavari Johnson Tavari Johnson 6'0" | PG Lyons Township | 2022 State #171 Nation IL (Young & Reckless)
Johnson is a high IQ point guard with the ball on a string. He understands how to run a team and is an absolute ball screen savant. Makes excellent reads in that area along with being able to find teammates picking/popping or getting to the rim himself and even pulling up from mid-range for jumpers. With his play for Y&R/Authentic he became a coveted mid-major target.
Ben VanderWal Ben VanderWal 6'5" | SF Timothy Christian | 2022 State #201 Nation IL (Breakaway)
This Timothy Christian wing bumped into the top 10 overall coming into the spring while not even holding a D1 offer. He ended the circuit as a priority mid-major recruit. The 6’7” combo forward can flat out shoot the rock as one of the better snipers in the 2022 class. Quick release and accuracy from deep. More than just a shooter he has some athletic pop to his game off the bounce and rebounds well.
Ethan Ivan Ethan Ivan 6'7" | PF Batavia | 2022 State IL (HIT)
The Batavia star power forward was one of the more productive players on the PHC all spring and summer for HIT. As a face up four he presents so many ways to do damage as an elite spot up shooting threat along with pick/pop ability. What we liked about his development was showing there is more in there than just that. He scored with mobility in the paint and was a factor on the glass.
Xavier Amos Xavier Amos 6'7" | PF Whitney Young | 2022 State #233 Nation IL (Team Rose)
Amos was a standout at both Chi-Town Tip Off and his early play at 2k21. The Whitney Young power forward found another gear with his multi-level scoring. Really improved his jumper which opened up more avenues to impact the game with his athleticism, length, and motor on the interior.
2nd Team
Zach Cleveland Zach Cleveland 6'8" | PF Normal West | 2022 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars)
Cleveland had some helium heading into the circuit and lived up to it with his play in April and May. The Normal Community power forward did a nice job of being a versatile scoring weapon with his toughness and footwork inside along with bombing in threes. Really like what he brought on the offensive glass getting second chance points on the regular. Committed to Liberty.
Bobby Durkin Bobby Durkin 6'6" | SF Hinsdale South | 2022 State IL (Breakaway)
Durkin has been a favorite of ours for a while. Combo forward at 6’6” that is a straight sniper from deep. One of the best shooters in the class the Hinsdale South forward drained shots all spring moving without the ball, flaring, and spotting up. Solid rebounder.
Justin Mullins Justin Mullins 6'4" | SF Oak Park-River Forest | 2022 State IL (Young & Reckless)
Mullins is a prospect that was greatly able to showcase his talents on the Prep Hoops Circuit. The OPRF rising senior is the ultimate utility wing that does an excellent job of impacting the game in a variety of ways. Best as a slasher and open floor player that really improved his shooting throughout the summer which opened up a wide range of D1 offers. Plus defender that can lock down several positions.
Patrick Robinson (M14)
Robinson is a thick bodied wing from Oswego East that had several big games. He understands how to use his upper body strength to overwhelm opponents off the bounce. When his outside game is on he can take over which he did in several contests for M14.
Christian Meeks Christian Meeks 6'6" | SF Homewood Flossmoor | 2022 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars/Team Rose)
Meeks is one of the ultimate competitors that we saw on the circuit this spring and summer. High energy power forward that absolutely mauled on the offensive glass for second chance points. Quickness and power around the hoop are the name of his game along with being a versatile defender.
3rd Team
Dajuan Bates Dajuan Bates 6'1" | PG De La Salle | 2022 State IL (RISE)
Bates helped himself quite a bit with a strong showing during the spring and summer on the PHC. Wiry point guard has it on a string being able to score off the bounce on quick drives through holes in the defense. Improved the consistency on his jumper and was an intense perimeter defender.
David Hubbard David Hubbard 6'4" | SG Champaign Centennial | 2022 State IL (Champaign Heat)
Hubbard is one of the better kept secrets from central Illinois. The St. Thomas More shooting guard is a silky smooth wing scorer that loves to operate in the mid-range for pull up shots. Was a consistent performer for the Champaign Heat as their go to guy.
Davontae Hall (Team Rose)
The Hyde Park point guard really stepped his game up each time we saw him with Team Rose over the summer. Explosive point guard that can get to the rim and has a burst with the rock in his hands. More of a scorer, but the way he elevated his stock most was his improved facilitating and top notch defense.
AJ Casey AJ Casey 6'8" | PF Whitney Young | 2022 State #55 Nation IL (Meanstreets)
Casey is the top ranked prospect in the 2022 class. The Whitney Young power forward is a skilled and athletic four man was excellent at both Chi-Town Tip Off and The Platform with his rebounding and showed his upside as a rim runner/mobile scorer on the interior. Can defend multiple positions on the defensive end.
Damari Wheeler-Thomas Damari Wheeler-Thomas 6'0" | PG Larkin | 2022 State IL (Young & Reckless)
Wheeler-Thomas is a point guard from Larkin that played in the backcourt with Johnson effectively. He has a killer handle getting where he needs on the floor to operate effectively. Wins off the bounce for runners and scoop shots. Improved as a passer and decision maker.
Justin King Justin King 6'4" | PG Mascoutah | 2022 State IL (Illinois Bears)
King is one of the top prospects from southern Illinois. The 2022 guard from Mascoutah hit mid-range jumpers and improved his percentage from three for the Bears. Slithers through the lane off the bounce and flashes as a passer.
Trey Pettigrew Trey Pettigrew 6'3" | PG Hillcrest Prep | 2022 State #143 Nation IL (Mac Irvin Fire)
Pettigrew is considered among the best lead guards in the class. He moved back from Arizona for his senior season and made an immediate impact with the Mac Irvin Fire at Havoc in the Heartland where he was in his bag scoring at will off the bounce. The athleticism and ball handling have made strides since we last saw him. Also played well in the summer at Chi-Town Tip Off. Has high-majors recruiting him.
