Here are some Wichita-area forwards and centers to watch as we transition to school ball:
George Nikolov, 6-foot-7 center, 2022, Derby:
Nikolov jumped out in summer action for Midwest Magic Elite as a man too big and too powerful for most opponents. He hasn’t had a chance to show much on the Derby varsity, but he might just be a big addition this fall. He is a treat on the perimeter, and a devastating presence in the low post. If he can mesh with the brilliant collection of guards, look out.
Adam Ray, 6-foot-3 forward, 2022, Andover Central:
Ray is a big forward who played just a handful of games last season for the Jaguars. He was productive in limited time, putting up 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds. The Jaguars return a lot of the talent from last year, and Ray could play a bigger role in helping them take a step forward.
Aiden Sutter, 6-foot-3 forward, 2022, Campus HS:
Sutter was impressive with the Kansas Players this summer, showing a ton of ability at every level. He has good size and length and the tenacity to battle in the lane. With the losses at Campus, Sutter should be in line for a bigger role after scoring 4.4 points and 2.6 boards as a junior.
Anthony Verge, 6-foot-5 forward, 2022, Wichita Southeast:
Verge looked like a man on a mission for Midwest Magic Elite this summer. He’s a big athlete who brings his lunch pail. He crashes the boards with length and a mature physique. Watch for him to earn a bigger role at Southeast this year.
Keaton Williams Keaton Williams 6'8" | C Wichita Southeast | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-8 forward, 2022, Wichita Southeast:
Few players jumped out in summer action like Williams did for the Midwest Magic Elite. He seemed to have his hands in the way of every shot in some games. He is a long, slender leaper who can impact a game without attempting a shot. He has yet to make a big splash in high school action, but this might be the year. He showed this summer he can anchor a defense, score in the paint, and be a force on the glass.
