Here are some KC guards to watch as we transition to school ball:
Daegan Jensen Daegan Jensen 6'1" | SG Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Miege:
Jensen played some good minutes for Miege last year, which is really saying something because of the kind of talent on that squad. With several of those stars potentially heading to other programs this year, Jensen may find a much greater opportunity as a junior. He’s a long and athletic guard who averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 boards in limited time last year.
Trent Johnson, 5-10 guard, 2023, Desoto:
Johnson really impressed as a heady guard for his club team this summer. He can push the ball and find open teammates. He showed the ability to stick open jumpers, making him a candidate for a variety of roles at the guard spot.
Darius Mall, 5-foot-11 guard, 2022, Aquinas:
Mall averaged 2.6 points per game as a key reserve as a junior. He earned a lot of his action because of his active playmaking at the defensive end. Mall is an explosive ball handler who brings a spark to the game.
Malik O’Atis Malik O’Atis 5'11" | PG Shawnee Mission Northwest | 2023 State KS , 5-foot-11 guard, 2023, Shawnee Mission Northwest:
One of the highest rated to players yet to make a big impact on varsity, watch Oatis to grow this year. He is an elite athlete playing the point guard spot. He makes plays with his defense and disrupts everything when he locks on an opponent. He has the handle and ability to drive end to end that should earn him more time this year.
JD Roane, 6-foot-1 guard, 2022, Blue Valley North:
It was incredibly hard to get playing time for the state champs last year. Roane was called upon in a reserve role and responded with 2.4 points and 1 rebound per game. With graduation depleting the roster, Roane should see a big jump in his minutes this year. He is a solid ball handler and fine athlete who should be able to make an impression this year.
