This tournament brought out 50 teams from all over the South and Midwest to compete to be the Grind Region Finals Champions. This action-packed event was filled with 4 and 5-star recruits, dynamic scorers, slam dunkers, floor generals, up-and-coming big men, and future nationally ranked prospects. Here we’ll take a look at some standouts from the 15U division that made their mark on the game.
Jeremiah Deering | Forward | JEB Elite 2024 | Oklahoma City, OK
6-foot-3-inch Jeremiah Deering is a very raw prospect that already has a great basketball physique and shows a lot of potential and upside as a hybrid forward. Deering brings an abundance of energy and an incredible work ethic to the floor that must be appreciated. His ability to control the boards was phenomenal, Deering was such a physical rebounder that not many wanted to battle with him for the ball. In the open court, the JEB Elite forward showed off his athleticism by throwing down nasty two-handed slams that rocked the entire gym.
Deigo Ochoa | Point Guard | Tulsa Hawks 2024 Blue | Broken Arrow, OK
Deigo Ochoa is always a pleasure to watch play the game. He consistently stands out as an all-around, high motor, high IQ point guard that can affect each aspect of the game. Ochoa showed has a great feel for the floor and the situation at hand, he always finds himself in the right spot at the right time on both ends of the floor. The Tulsa Hawks lead guard also made defenders look silly with his awesome footwork off the dribble. Ochoa had a knack for pulling out the euro steps, hop steps, and pro hops when attempting to get around a defender for the finish in transition.
Kaiden Myers Kaiden Myers 6'3" | CG Allen | 2024 State TX | Point Guard | Victory Academy 2024 Gold | Frisco, TX
This 2024 prospect is as smooth as they come, his silky handle and footwork allowed him to slither to the basket and draw fouls at a high rate. Kaiden’s high-quality reading of body angles opened up his entire game, making him a true threat in the pick-and-roll. Myers did an excellent job of attaching himself to his screening man and staying with them until he spotted an opening. Kaiden saw the floor extremely well on the drive, always keeping one eye on his big man and one eye on the basket. Even while setting up the offense Myers looked for open passing lanes in the paint. When tossing it inside he was a terrific entry passer from every angle, showing the ability to zip the ball through tight windows with bounce and touch passes.
Gabe Patterson Gabe Patterson 6'4" | SG Rejoice Christian | 2024 OK | Shooting Guard | Tulsa Hawks 2024 Blue | Tulsa, OK
There’s nothing on the basketball court that Gabe Patterson Gabe Patterson 6'4" | SG Rejoice Christian | 2024 OK cannot do at a high level. Patterson did damage in every way imaginable as he put up 17 points against a tough Nike ProSkills team. Gabe put his facilitating skills and court vision on full display. Several of his passes led to easy or open layups for his teammates, he put a great touch on his throws as he hit cutters in stride. The thing I liked most about Gabe Patterson Gabe Patterson 6'4" | SG Rejoice Christian | 2024 OK was that anytime he made a mistake on the offensive end he immediately made up on the defensive end.
Tyler Davis | Shooting Guard | Nike ProSkills San Antonio 2024 Black | San Antonio, TX
Nike ProSkills sharpshooter Tyler Davis made his presence felt in a major way from beyond the arc. Davis proved to be a knockdown jumpshooter that must be accounted for him at all times especially when he’s looking for the corner three-ball. The 5-foot-9-inch marksman consistently came down the floor and quickly cut through the middle of the lane looking for a screen and an open look from the perimeter, and if he didn’t get the ball on the first try Davis went and did the same thing all over again until it worked out in his favor.
Jaryn Porter | Combo Guard | Enid Elite 2024 | Enid, OK
This 6-foot Oklahoman prospect provided extremely fluid athleticism, lightning speed, and strong, explosive slashing skills that made him nearly unstoppable when attacking the rim with a full head of steam. Porter loves to score in transition and he showed it with his pure ability to push the pace like no other. Although he can get to the basket at will, Porter remained unselfish. Anytime he drove the lane his teammates slashed with him and Porter made sure to reward them with timely assist each possession. Early on in the tournament, Jaryn let it be known that the defense was no match for him with the way he controlled the game and scored with ease.
