This tournament brought out 50 teams from all over the South and Midwest to compete to be the Grind Region Finals Champions. This action-packed event was filled with 4 and 5-star recruits, dynamic scorers, slam dunkers, floor generals, up-and-coming big men, and future nationally ranked prospects. Here we’ll take a look at a few standouts from the final day of competition in 17U division.
Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK | Shooting Guard | Tulsa Hawks | Bixby, OK
2023 prospect, Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK , has become a very prominent name in Oklahoma, he’s known as the best shooter in the state and one of the hottest, most highly recruited players in the nation. Friedrichsen lived up to all of his hype, he was an absolute sniper from three-point range, knocking down jumpshots off the catch, as well as off the dribble. Parker ran up the court and pulled up in a spectacular manner on numerous occasions, and he did it until the defense showed they could contain him. In the most anticipated matchup of Championship Sunday, this sharpshooter really put his shooting prowess on full display as he nailed 5 three-pointers in the first 5 minutes of play in the Final Four game against Texas Swish. 6-foot-4-inch, Friedrichsen proved to be an unconscious shooter with incredible confidence in his jumper, his three-point shooting will be his staple at the next level seeing as though he already has range well beyond the college perimeter.
Jerqualen Parks | Point Guard | Texas Swish | Oak Cliff, TX
Jerqualen Parks continues to get better and better with time, his shot selection, offensive instincts, and his effectiveness on and off the ball have continued to improve tremendously. Parks takes what the defense gives him, and picks and chooses his spots well often finding open three-point opportunities or open holes in the lane particularly when attacking closeouts for pull-up mid-range jumpers, floaters, and finishes at the basket through traffic. Parks has developed the efficiency and consistency to be one of the better scoring point guards in Dallas during this upcoming high school season.
Jordan McCullough | Point Guard | Dallas Showtyme 2022 Black Elite | Dallas, TX
The Dallas Showtyme guard contributed heavily across the board on both sides of the ball, he grabbed rebounds, dropped dimes, scored from all three levels, forced turnovers, and played hard-nosed lockdown defense. On the offensive end, McCullough proved to be a playmaker with a good feel for the game and a pass-first mindset. Jordan showed a knack for setting up his teammates, making precise passes, and putting the ball right on the money even when slipping it through tight windows. Every move he made and every shot he took was based on how the defense reacted to his dribble or pump fake, McCullough had a counter move for each way the defender tried to play him. Defensively, Jordan was gritty, played with a high motor, and loved to defend the full length of the court. McCullough was excellent on the defensive end, very vocal, always staying low, and using his quick choppy feet to stick to his man like glue without getting into foul trouble, his defensive instincts and effort were his best traits. This Texas prospect has next-level floor general potential, he displayed a good understanding of how to play the game on and off the ball, showed leadership on the court, and played every possession with a passion.
Kyron Henderson Kyron Henderson 6'6" | PF Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX | Forward | Texas Swish | Oak Cliff, TX
Kyron Henderson Kyron Henderson 6'6" | PF Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX and his wide receiver skill set have correlated perfectly to the basketball court. He skies through the air outleaping his opponents and catching the ball at its highest point over everyone whether he’s going after a rebound or catching an alley-oop. This super athlete can jump out of the gym like no other, he has next-level bounce and possibly the highest vertical leap in Texas. Henderson got the bulk of his points from above the rim, mostly in open court situations where he could get out ahead of the defense and finish the play with a thunderous slam, he’s guaranteed to get you at least 3 or 4 dunks per game. I loved the intensity he brought to the floor, he played with a true football player’s mentality by being extremely aggressive and physical on every play, consistently finding the contact before it found him.
Arterio Morris Arterio Morris 6'4" | PG Dallas Kimball | 2022 State #16 Nation TX | Point Guard | Texas Swish | Lewisville, TX
The University of Texas commit showcased stints of greatness with his extraordinary ball skills. Morris operated as if the ball was attached to his hand, it was like he had the ball on a string with his ability to handle and dish it around with ease. He was such an outstanding facilitator that he even passed incredibly well out of his shot or when leaving his feet. Arterio also displayed phenomenal leaping capabilities when attacking the hole fearlessly. Anytime Morris rose in the air there was only one thing on his mind and that was posterizing whoever stood in his way, even when getting rejected at the rim, Arterio continued to come inside with the same reckless abandon.
