I mostly watched the 15U teams and saw some really solid up and coming players. A solid scoring/defending wing is something every team needs and here’s a quick look at some of the top 2s/3s I saw from this weekend.
1. Aiden Segal – Coastal Elite 2024 Elite
What stood out to me the most about Segal was his three-point shooting ability. He’s very consistent from range with a good catch and shoot ability. He does a good job floating to the corners and getting himself open by moving without the ball. He’s got a quick release on his shot. He gets into a good rhythm stepping into his shot, squares up well with good shooting mechanics. In transition, he does well running the break and filling in the lanes.
2. Nic Corbo Nic Corbo 6'2" | CG Chaparral | 2024 State AZ – AZ Triple Threat 2024
Corbo showed a strong ability to be both a playmaker and a scorer from the wing. He looks like he could be a solid shooting guard or even small forward with some point guard skills. He’s a little slight but he is strong. He uses his body well and he can absorb contact at the rim while finishing through the defense. He is comfortable acting as the ball-handler while in transition.
3. Rowen Wimmer – Coastal Elite 2024 Elite
To me, Wimmer is in the mold of a 3&D type player. His defense is one of the primary things that stood out to me. He’s a solid perimeter defender on ball. He has quick hands and can cause turnovers that lead to fast break opportunities. Offensively, he is a pretty solid three-point shooter that can move without the ball and is near automatic when left open. He’s another wing that showed a strong comfort level with handling the ball on the break.
4. Jaelen Green Jaelen Green 6'2" | SF Gilbert | 2024 State AZ – PAL Elite 2024
Green showed some pretty advanced offensive moves throughout the event. He’s a scoring wing who handles the ball in transition and can go coast to coast after a rebound. He can accelerate quickly and he can Euro-step his way around the defense. Does a very good job beating the defense down court. He uses crossovers too to get himself free and into the lane. Very good off-ball movement too. Does a good job lurking in the dunker spot.
