I mostly watched the 15U teams and saw some really solid up and coming players. Throughout the weekend, there were a few players who stood out more than once. Here’s a look at the All-Tournament Team for the 15U division.
1. Deuce Sims – Coastal Elite 2024 Elite
Sims was one of the tournament’s stand out point guards on both days. He’s very comfortable handling the ball under pressure and he keeps his head up while dribbling down court. In transition, he’s a very good playmaker who looks for his teammates. Good drive and dish player. He’s tough to stop downhill; he gets into the lane and can finish strong at the rim. Good body control. He can also shoot well from both the midrange and from the three-point line.
2. DeMonte Lowe – Gamepoint Inland Empire
Lowe is a nice young player with solid upside. What stood out he most to me watching him play throughout the weekend was his unselfishness on the offensive end. He doesn’t force shot, he keeps his patience. He keeps the ball moving; doesn’t let the offense stagnate. He has good size for a wing. He looked comfortable handling the ball in transition. Can get to the rim and has good finishing ability.
3. Makhi Golston Makhi Golston 6'2" | SG North Canyon | 2024 AZ – PAL Elite 2024
Golston was one of the top wing scorers of the weekend. The big thing about him to me was that he was unafraid of pressure moments. He will take and make big shots down the stretch. As a wing, he’s comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays. Has a nice little floater when he gets into the paint off the dribble. Does a good job of drawing the defense and making the right play whether it’s a pass or taking the shot himself.
4. JJ Sanchez – South Bay Show 2024
Sanchez was definitely one of the premier bigs of the weekend. His versatility was unmatched. For an inside player, his passing is very advanced. I was impressed with his ability to read the defense and find his open teammates off cuts when the defense closed in on him. When he’s in the paint, he makes decisive moves using drop steps and he can finish through the contact. Does a solid job lurking in the dunker spot.
5. Xair Mendez – South Bay Show 2024
Mendez was another standout wing scorer of the weekend. This was my second time seeing him play and he once again showed off his ability to be a big time scoring wing. He’s an efficient scorer, he recognizes mismatches and he’s able to exploit that. Good slashing game; he can get into the paint and he finishes well. He has some playmaking to his game as well. He’s able to find his teammates, especially in the half court. High upside.
