In the first two parts of my Orlando stock risers series, I highlighted some players in the class of 2022 who have received a plethora of scholarship offers. In part III I will delve into some players who may not have recieved any Division I offers, but still have caught my attention.
C Jack Klinger Jack Klinger 6'7" | C Lake Brantley | 2021 FL 6-9 Lake Brantley
Klinger had some big games playing for Team Speight’s, one of the countries top non shoe affiliated programs. In one of his best games against Team Huncho, he went toe to toe with a Top 100 recruit scoring 12 points 12 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. The big man is sneaky athletic, as he caught unsuspecting defenders in posters more than a few times. He has the ability to finish with both hands around the basket, and can swat away shots while still keeping the ball in play. This summer has been a great experience for Klinger, as he battled with players who were just as big and strong as he is on a game- by -game basis. As a result, expect to see him dominate local high school competition in his last year before going off to college. As far as levels are concerned he has heard from a school in each division and in my opinion, he is definitely a scholarship player. Off the court Klinger is a bit of a renaissance man. He plays the piano, is an Eagle scout, and is in the school’s marching band. He balances all of these extra curricular activities while maintaining a 4.5 GPA, and scored a 1340 on the SAT his first time taking it. The Lake Brantley standout plans on studying business in college, so any school with an elite program in that area of study should not hesitate to shoot their shot.
PG Jyshaun Melvin Jyshaun Melvin 5'10" | PG Evans | 2022 State FL 5-8 Evans
I’m still waiting for college coaches to catch on to Melvin. Yes he is undersized, but his overall toughness and gumption should not be overlooked. The point guard has the ability to take over games with his scoring from all three areas of the court, and can also run an offense. He is easily a top five player in terms of quickness and agility in Orlando. Last season at Evans he led the team scoring with 18.4 PPG to go along with 4.3 APG while shooting 38% from 3 and 50% from the field. This was all against some of the top teams that Florida has to offer. He can shoot off the dribble or catch, and is a layup artist around the basket. Off the court Melvin’s work ethic is no different, as he holds a respectable 3.7 GPA going into his senior year.
SF Krishen Atwal Krishen Atwal 6'6" | SG Trinity Prep | 2022 State FL 6-6 Trinity Prep
Another player making the trip down I-4 to play for Team Speight’s was Krishen Atwal Krishen Atwal 6'6" | SG Trinity Prep | 2022 State FL . The wing has great footwork and when he see’s the ball go through the net, expect to see a few more shots follow suit. Over the AAU season he had some big games, most notably when he caught fire against a Nike sponsored New Heights Lighting team from New York City. He finished that contest with a team high 19 points. While he still has yet to receive his first scholarship offer, he has heard from Division I and II schools as well as some elite academic Division III schools. Off the court Atwal holds a high GPA and scored well on the SAT.
C Clarens Pierre Clarens Pierre 6'8" | PF Central Florida Christian Academy | 2022 State FL 6-8 Central Florida Christian
Last season CFCA had a late blooming five man named Immanuel Zorgval who ended up at Northern Kentucky. Pierre battled with him everyday in practice and that experience has certainly helped him this AAU season. The big man has an elite skill- blocking shots which is something that has certainly caught the eyes of many college coaches. He runs the floor well, has adequate lateral quickness to go along with great timing. Offensively he gets most of his points off of put backs, and drop off passes from guards resulting in dunks. With continued progress on offense expect to see the big fella’s recruitment to pickup steam. He has all the tools necessary, a lot of which cannot be taught.
SG Antonio Redding Antonio Redding 5'11" | SF Ocoee | 2022 State FL 6-1 CFCA
Sharing the court with several college players at CFCA, Redding may be the most under recruited. He has had some big time performances as a junior, and should build off that going into his final season. He saved his best games for the top opponents on CFCA’s schedule scoring 19 points against Windermere, 23 against Wildwood, and 15 against Santa Fe catholic. He has and elite skill: shooting the 3-point shot. On 123 attempts the marksmen sank 60 3-pointers at a 49% rate. He also has a solid midrange game and is crafty while attacking the basket. Any school looking to add a dead eye 3-point shooter should take a hard look.
