Continue ReadingWith the NCAA granting everyone an extra year of eligibility due to covid, offers were few and far between for the class of 2021 with many schools holding onto roster spots for transfers. This summer coaches were finally able to come out and watch prospects play for the first time in several months, the result: more offers were distributed. These are just a few players who benefited greatly from the live periods in the class of 2022:
SG/SF Jayden Williams Jayden Williams 6'6" | SG Windermere Prep | 2022 State FL 6-5 Windermere Prep
It was only a matter of time before college coaches started to notice Williams. I have been a fan for a while now, but his play in a win over Bishop Mclaughlin late last season was what really caught my attention. He has an elite skill: the ability to shoot efficiently from behind the 3-pont line (49% last HS Season). Playing for 1 Family on the AAU circuit, it seemed like every other game he sank five plus 3-pointers. And that’s not to say that he is one dimensional. The Windermere Prep star has an excellent feel for the game, knows exactly when to cut, when to pass, and can score in the mid post or in transition. He has improved quite a bit off the dribble, and is athletic enough to go up and get it a lob pass. Defensively he has shown that he can put the clamps down. His room for growth may be what is most intriguing, as I feel that there is a whole other level to his game that he can reach. Thus far he has fielded offers from Ohio, Binghamton, Jacksonville, and Rollins but don’t be surprised to see more come his way. He can fit into many different playing styles, however any school who runs a Princeton offense should be all over this young man.
PG Javon Bennett Javon Bennett 5'11" | CG Trinity Prep | 2022 State FL 5-8 Trinity Prep
Another player who is a lot better than I previously thought is Javon Bennett Javon Bennett 5'11" | CG Trinity Prep | 2022 State FL . The point guard has always been one of my favorite’s to watch. He is lightning quick, can shoot the 3-point shot, gets to his spots in the midrange, and can cause all kinds of havoc as a passer when he gets into the lane. Sharing the floor with at least four high major prospects playing with Southeast Elite, Bennett has proven himself against some of the top players in the country. I was once told by a mid-major coach that” If he was a few inches taller blue bloods would be all over this kid”, and I have to agree. Thus far the shifty point guard has received offers from Merrimack, FGCU, Jacksonville, Stetson.
SG AJ Brown AJ Brown 6'4" | CG Orlando Christian Prep | 2022 State #190 Nation FL 6-4 Orlando Christian Prep
On an Each 1 Teach 1 team that was easily one of the best in the country, Brown was at times the best player on the floor. The long athletic wing is a guy who you can tell “Go get a bucket” and more often than not he will do just that. He has a nice spin move, quick crossover, and uses his length and creativity to finish around the basket. He is an above average shooter from behind the 3-point line and gets to his spots often to score from the mid range. Recruiting wise Brown has taken a visit to Penn State and he has also received over a dozen offers highlighted by Clemson, Alabama, Texas A&M, USF, VCU, Murray St, Temple, Yale, Penn, and Ohio.
PG Jah Quinones Jah Quinones 6'4" | CG Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State FL 6-4 Lake Highland Prep
There aren’t many players who have helped their recruiting as much in the state of Florida as Quinones. No he doesn’t look like a guy who should be bringing the ball up the court, but sit down and watch him play and see. The lead guard did just that all AAU season long for Team Judah Nation, and at times against some of the top shoe sponsored teams in the country. He can bully his way around the court with his large frame, but also has a quick crossover and a deep bag of moves off the dribble to get by defenders. As far as basketball IQ and making the right reads, Quinones is in a class of his own. He can thread the needle with a bounce pass and he sees things before they actually happen. Shooting the ball, he was significantly better than during the high school season from behind the arc, and has shown the ability to hit the step back. In the last couple months Northern Illinois, Kennesaw State, Mercer, and Niagara have offered the Lake Highland prep standout.
PG Fabio Basili Fabio Basili 6'2" | CG Oak Ridge | 2022 State FL 6-3 Oak Ridge
I just got done watching film of Basili online at a tournament in Las Vegas playing for Each 1 Teach 1. One thing you can expect when watching the point guard play is entertainment. He is a magician with the ball as a passer and dribbler. He has good size and length and the ability to stop on a dime and change directions, loves the spin move, and can really shoot it off the dribble, especially the step back. In one of the games I watched, the man with the best name in Florida basketball went for 37 points and 6 assists. He has the ability to take over games late with his offense, or simply direct traffic as a facilitator and dish out a dozen assists. SMU and TCU represent his lone scholarship offers and many others are taking notice.
