Continue ReadingWith the NCAA granting everyone an extra year of eligibility due to covid, offers were few and far between for the class of 2021 with many schools holding onto roster spots for transfers. This summer coaches were finally able to come out and watch prospects play for the first time in several months, the result: more offers were distributed. These are just a few players who benefited greatly from the live periods in the class of 2022:
C Ernest Udeh Ernest Udeh 6'10" | C Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #48 Nation FL 6-10 Dr. Phillips
Although just about every player who faced Dr. Phillips this year had at least one of their shots blocked or altered by Udeh, he was still a bit under the radar. Even after winning a class 7A state championship. The big man’s hunger is what sets him apart from his peers. He was a dominant defense force, and a major lob threat during his junior year. He had a few offers. A lot of kids start to get complacent when they start receiving scholarship offers. But what did Ernest Udeh Ernest Udeh 6'10" | C Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #48 Nation FL do? He got in the gym, added at least 10 pounds of muscle, and developed a back to the basket game. I had never really seen Udeh shoot from outside of the paint, but I’ve recently watched him knock down a couple from just inside the 3-point line. He went from a guy known primarily in the southeast to a guy who is known by everyone in the country who follows college basketball recruiting. This summer he was invited to every prestigious exposure camp in the country, and even led the NBPA Top 100 camp in rebounding pulling down eight per game against a field full of future NBA Players.
All of his hard work has paid off in the form of scholarship offers highlighted by Baylor, Michigan, Indiana, Kansas, Texas Tech, UCLA, Illinois and just about every school in the SEC. He has yet to narrow his list down publicly but he’s got an overwhelmingly long list of options. Expect to see his dominant play in AAU playing with Southeast Elite to translate into a dominant senior season playing for a defending state champion Dr. Phillips team that many media outlets consider to be top 25 in the country.
PG Denzel Aberdeen Denzel Aberdeen 6'4" | PG Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #197 Nation FL 6-4 Dr. Phillips
Aberdeen is another name fresh on the mind of many college coaches. He went into the spring with only a few low-mid major offers and came away with several intriguing high major options. Running with his high school teammates Udeh and Riley Kugel Riley Kugel 6'5" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #208 Nation FL on Southeast Elite Grassroots, Aberdeen turned in many 20 plus point performances to go along with high assist totals against elite competition from all over the country. He has always been an elite shooter, but the playmaking ability he has displayed over the past few months is what has really turned heads. Recruiting wise the Dr. Phillips lead guard has offers from Florida, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, USF, Illinois, and Ole Miss just to name a few.
SG Riley Kugel Riley Kugel 6'5" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #208 Nation FL 6-6 Dr. Phillips
When Kugel is feeling it he looks the part of a top 150 player in the country. The wing has the measurements and athleticism of a prototypical high major shooting guard and skills to back it up. Consistency in his play over the spring and summer has played a major part in his recruiting taking a major upswing. He can shoot it, score in bunches but also has the ability to thread the needle with passes and get his teammates involved. Like his teammates, Kugel began to blow up after a strong performance at the GBCA live period team camp in Georgia, and his phone hasn’t stopped wringing since. Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Miami, Houston, Auburn are just a few of the programs who have extended offers.
G/F Brice Sensabaugh Brice Sensabaugh 6'6" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #104 Nation FL 6-6 Lake Highland Prep
Forgot about Brice?
We ranked Sensabaugh far too low in our last rankings. He sat out his entire junior season after suffering an unfortunate knee injury. The big bodied wing has played with a chip on his shoulder all spring and summer leading Each 1 Teach 1 in scoring frequently against top competition on the Nike EYBL circuit. He is in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in, and his frame allows him to flat out bully defenders in the post or on slashes to the basket. That coupled with his ability to shoot from the mid range all the way out to the NBA line at a high clip has made his name well known nationally. He has also shown a deep bag of tricks off the dribble and can erupt for a poster dunk at any moment. A standout in the classroom as well as on the court, Sensabaugh has narrowed his list down to Stanford, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Florida, Indiana, Georgia Tech,Illinois, and Alabama.
F Ven-Allen Lubin Ven-Allen Lubin 6'7" | PF Orlando Christian Prep | 2022 State #144 Nation FL 6-8 Orlando Christian Prep
On an AAU team with the trio of high major Dr. Phillips prospects, it was Lubin who led the team in scoring and rebounding often. The forward has been well known since his freshmen year at OCP, but this summer his recruitment has really picked up as a result of his play. Lubin can play, and defend 3-5 at the next level and versatility is a highly coveted attribute by college coaches. This offseason he has clearly been working on his handle and jump shot and those efforts have translated into more options. The combo forward has an offer from every major conference in America including in state schools Miami, Florda, and South Florida.
