Here are a few recent instances of Kansas forwards and centers popping up on the national radar:
Andrell Burton, 6-foot-4 forward, 2024, Campus HS:
No way someone wasn’t going to notice the big guard/wing from Wichita who ran with TBB KS this summer. A scout at the Grind Regional Finals raved about Burton’s scoring ability. He described in detail Burton’s ball handling and ability to beat a defender to get his jump shot off. Of course, those in Kansas familiar with the Campus program know that Burton will likely explode this upcoming season as graduation claims two of the state’s best 2021s.
Maurice Davis, 6-foot-1 forward, 2023, Shawnee Mission Northwest HS:
Davis certainly caught the eye of Kansas scouts, so it’s nice to have the confirmation that an out-of-stater agreed with us. Playing for GABL Future, Davis showed intelligence as well as athleticism. The guy who watched him at the MAYB Nationals called Davis ‘a true student of the game.’ The description provided was of a team-first player willing to do the little things.
Chris Harris Chris Harris 6'6" | SF Andover | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-6 forward, 2023, Andover HS:
Harris will be making a leap into the updated Kansas rankings soon. He drew raves from scouts at every out-of-state tournament. One recently described the TBB KS player as a ‘multi-skilled forward who can score inside and outside…can defend multiple positions.’ If you thought Andover was going to make a big drop due to graduations, you better think again.
Tory Homan, 6-foot-7 forward, 2024, Maize South:
Homan wasn’t seen by Kansas scouts this summer, but he certainly impressed one out-of-state reporter at the Grind Regional Finals. He called the TBB KS big man ‘relentless on the glass.’ He described Homan as having ‘an outstanding effort to his game and a high motor that wouldn’t quit.’ With that kind of size and work ethic, you can look for Homan to be a riser on the Kansas scene.
Will Mlynek Will Mlynek 6'9" | C Free State | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-9 center, 2023, Shawnee Mission South HS (pictured):
A scout caught Mlynek playing with the Kansas Hoggs at the MAYB Nationals and liked what he saw. He called Mlynek ‘a very consistent finisher at the rim…a tenacious rebounder.’ He noted that Mlynek wasn’t just confined to the post, but got out to knock down 3’s as well. He called Mlynek unselfish and versatile.
Jackson Swartz, 6-foot-5 forward, 2023, Chaparrel HS:
An out-of-state Prep Hoops writer noted Swartz’ ability to shoot from the perimeter, as well as to attack on the bounce from the wing. Scouts within the state were equally impressed with Swartz’ growth this summer with TBB KS and look for a big high school season from him.
