Continue ReadingSouthside high school will host 40 of the top preps from the classes of 2022 and 2023 in Louisiana during the 2nd edition of Mal Mundy’s Statement Session. This year’s version will have 30 new faces between the two classes. With many of the top players in the Prep Hoops rankings participating, we will preview some of the players to watch during Louisiana’s latest evaluation event.
Patrick McCraney Patrick McCraney 6'2" | CG Neville | 2022 State LA (6’1″ | CG | Neville) – Playing like a point guard in the early games, McCraney has his head up constantly in transition moving the ball with the pass instead of the dribble. He has not been on from three but he has shown to be deadly in the mid-range. McCraney has also attacked the lane and found cutters and shooters. He aggressively defended bigger guards (like Dorian Finister Dorian Finister 6'5" | CG Carver | 2022 State #173 Nation LA ) showing his willingness to compete on the defensive end.
Bryce Weinmunson Bryce Weinmunson 6'2" | CG Mandeville | 2022 State LA (6’1″ | CG | Mandeville) – Weinmunson displayed two-way skills in his two early games. He showed great on the ball defensive skills with the ability to switch onto anyone and still be effective. His shot from deep and the mid-range was as pure as it gets. Bryce showed that he is more than just a shooter in the early games which bodes well for him going forward.
Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA (6’1″ | PG | North Central) – Stoner had it working on both ends as well. While he is known for his defense, he scored from every offensive level. He made three pointers from catch-and-shoot situations and off the bounce. He created turnovers with his man-to-man defense and his help defense converting those turnovers into scores. Stoner truly had a good morning on the hardwood.
Jordan DeCuir Jordan DeCuir 6'3" | CG Zachary | 2022 State LA (6’2″ | CG | Zachary) – Jordan was in attack mode during the early morning games. He showed his athleticism with athletic finishes (including an up-and-under layup) at the rim. Decuir also displayed his improved passing skills as he played more point during the morning game. With his explosiveness and ability to score and pass, Decuir is dangerous from anywhere on the floor.
Devon’drake Arvie Devon’drake Arvie 6'2" | CG Beau Chene | 2022 State LA (6’2″ | CG | Beau Chene) – Arvie was the master of the mid-range during the early sessions. Anywhere between 15 to 18 feet, he was automatic. He has really improved the lift and release of his jumper greatly improving the consistency. On defense, Arvie took every defensive challenge he could against the top guards in the state. His early morning play was definitely at a high level.
There will be more to come from players like Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA , Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC , Joseph Manning Joseph Manning 6'3" | CG Bossier | 2022 State LA , John-Paul Ricks John-Paul Ricks 6'0" | PG Jehovah-Jireh | 2022 State #206 Nation LA , and others as the Statement Session from Southside High continues throughout the day.
