Jack Rose Jack Rose 6'5" | SG Westosha Central | 2022 State #213 Nation WI (6’4 2022 SG, Wisconsin PGC UAA)- Jack was one of the most consistent performers for Wisconsin Playground over the past few months, and those performances helped him add an offer from George Washington in June. He’s refined his game to become even more efficient as a scorer, able to move without the ball and get shots with limited dribbles. In fact, he was the 4th most efficient scorer (1.08 points per possession) in the Under Armor Association this summer. He may not be the most explosive athlete around, but he makes up for it with a grinders mentality defensively. Jack puts himself into the right positions to make plays off the ball, including some help side blocks and commonly getting his feet set to take charges. When there’s a loose ball on the floor, Jack is almost always the first one on the floor scrapping for it.
MJ Stackhouse (6’6 2024 PF, World Hoops Elite 15u)- The World Hoops Elite program director reached out to me about checking out their 15u team at a tournament in July, and I was glad I did because MJ Stackhouse put in a stellar performance. He’s physically advanced for his age, with a strong and explosive 6’6 frame that gives him an edge over others his age. MJ doesn’t just rely on that size and strength though, as he showed excellent touch to finish with either hand in the post, even against a taller opponent in the game I watched. In the game I watched he did a great job of not forcing off-balanced shots, and instead powering off two feet to finish under control. He does a lot of damage with his back to the basket, but has shown flashes of attacking from the wing and can run the floor hard in transition leading to some explosive dunks. Defensively he can defend taller players due to his strength, and is a shot blocking threat as he gets off the floor quickly.
Kenny Garth Kenny Garth 6'2" | CG Westosha Central | 2022 State WI (6’2 2022 CG, World Hoops Elite 17u)- A productive guard with a but of flair to his game, Kenny was putting in some strong performances this summer with World Hoops Elite . He’s so dangerous with the ball in his hands as he’s a creative dribbler who can shift his opponents off balance before attacking the basket. What makes him such a threat once he gets into the paint is not only his ability to finish with either hand in traffic, but his eyes are always scanning the floor and he has the ability to deliver an accurate pass to the open man. He showed a bit more this season as a catch-and-shoot threat from three, and is an explosive athlete in the open floor. On the defensive end he can defend either guard spot, moving his feet to apply heavy ball pressure and using his length to get up in passing lanes.
Caiden Lecce Caiden Lecce 6'0" | CG Minneapolis Southwest | 2022 State WI (5’11 2022 PG, D.F. Elite 17u)- It just seemed like every time I watched Caiden play he was producing at a high level. He’s a versatile scorer with a motor that never stops defensively. His constant ball pressure led to many frustrated point guards over the summer, and plenty of steals that allowed him to score in transition. Caiden also works hard to fight over screens and gets his feet set to take charges often. Offensively he has a ton of confidence and is a dangerous shooter off the dribble or coming off screens without the ball. Give him an angle to the basket and Caiden has a quick burst to attack the rim and finish against size. One of the breakout players of the summer.
Will Starks Will Starks 6'4" | SF Kenosha Tremper | 2023 State WI (6’4 2023 SF, World Hoops Elite )- One of the top finishers in the state’s 2023 class, Will won’t impress you with anything flashy, but he’s a hard working player who simply gets things done. It seemed like any time he touched the ball inside the paint, he was going to turn it into two points or a trip to the free throw line. Defensively he spent a lot of time guarding size in the paint, but also showed he can guard on the wing with his quickness. Will is a tenacious player who loves to scrap for loose balls and rebounds way bigger than his size at 6’4. When he steps on the floor you can just tell how bad he wants to win.
Andrew Alia Andrew Alia 6'2" | SG Kenosha St. Joseph | 2022 State WI (6’3 2022 G, Wisconsin PGC UAA)- Known as a big time scorer during the winter, Andrew spent a lot more time handling the ball this summer. Alia doesn’t need to score a whole lot with his Playground team, and instead spent a lot of time handling the ball under pressure and facilitating to all of the weapons around him. He still managed to show some of that scoring ability with hard cuts to the basket and some catch-and-shoot threes. In summer league with his high school team Andrew had some explosive dunks in transition, knocked down mid-range shots off the dribble, and spent time guarding just about every spot on the floor defensively.
Jamisen Young Jamisen Young 6'0" | PG Sunrise Christian Academy | 2023 KS (5’11 2023 PG, World Hoops Elite )- Jamisen showed why he’s one of the top ball handlers in the 2023 class, as he’s so creative with the ball in his hands. Sometimes gets caught trying to do too much, but his coaches trust him with the ball because he continuously made plays. He’s fearless attacking the basket against size and going up to finish acrobatically with reverse lay-ups, and because of his deep shooting range defenders are forced to guard him well beyond the arc. When Jamisen gets an edge to attack the baseline he’s extremely dangerous because he has the vision to pass the ball into small gaps to pick up assists, or go into bigs for some tough scores.
Five More Prospect Standouts
Bryce Wallace (6’5 2022 F, Chapman Academy)- Long and explosive prospect that’s a highlight play waiting to happen. Still raw but showed glimpses of potential in every game.
Devin Griffin Devin Griffin 5'10" | PG Westosha Central | 2022 State WI (6′ 2022 PG, World Hoops Elite )- Trusted floor general with a high basketball IQ. Tough defender who can pick up assists in bunches.
Keviyon Price (6’5 2022 PF, D.F. Elite)- Hard working 6’4-6’5 forward who plays a lot bigger than his size. Finished with efficiency and rebounded the ball at a high level.
Trey Jenkins Trey Jenkins 6'5" | SG Bradford | 2021 State WI (6’4 2022 SG, World Hoops Elite )- Doing a prep year at Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) and shot the ball well this summer. Lengthy guard dangerous off the catch or bounce.
Jalen Carlino Jalen Carlino 6'0" | PG Kenosha Bradford | 2022 State WI (6′ 2022 PG, D.F. Elite)- Didn’t get to play much this summer due to injury, but has a great feel for the game at the point guard spot. Dangerous shooter from beyond the arc as well.
