However, that isn’t an excuse to still not get in the gym when we can. On Sunday afternoon I made the trip over to Terre Haute for the Indiana State Elite Camp. Here are some of the top performers from the event. Part two of this post will go up on Monday morning.
Jared Bonds Jared Bonds 6'5" | PF Carmel | 2023 State IN (Carmel H.S. 2023)
Bonds may have the highest ceiling of anyone at the elite camp on Sunday. The 6’5″ forward a truly explosive leaper that loves to finish plays above the rim. There is some fine-tuning still that needs to take place on his overall skill set, but the raw physical ability is absolutely there. He is a versatile defensive threat as well that showcased the ability to switch and guard any position 1-4.
Colin Comer Colin Comer 6'4" | SG Greensburg | 2022 State IN (Greensburg H.S. 2022)
This 6’3″ guard had a great day at Indiana State showing off his explosiveness on the way to the rim. Comer loves to get up and dunk on people in transition and has the jumping ability to do it routinely. When he wasn’t throwing down big dunks, Comer shot it pretty well from beyond the arc. He is an all-around scoring guard that should put up big numbers this season at Greensburg.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | SG Parke Heritage | 2023 IN (Parke Heritage H.S. 2023)
Yet another explosive athlete, Johnson is a little smaller at just 6’0″ but makes up for it with his athleticism and strength. He is extremely hard to stop from getting into the paint off of the dribble and is a good finisher with both hands at the end of his drives. As he continues to improve from three-point range he just will become that much more of a weapon offensively.
Justin King Justin King 6'4" | PG Mascoutah | 2022 State IL (Mascoutah H.S. 2022)
This Illinois native really stood out on Sunday in my first opportunity to see him play. King is a long, 6’3″ point guard that can do a little bit of everything on the offensive end. He doesn’t get sped up, makes all of the right passes, and can score it efficiently from all three levels. King was without a doubt one of the better prospects in the building at Indiana State.
Brady Ruggles Brady Ruggles 6'6" | SG Danville | 2022 State IN (Danville H.S. 2022)
Ruggles is a really, really skilled offensive player. He can shoot the lights out from beyond the arc, but continues to impress me with his improved ability to create his own shot. That is what is going to make him a more intriguing prospect at the next level. Ruggles is one of most sought after D2/NAIA recruits in the state of Indiana currently.
Branden Walters (Linton-Stockton H.S. 2024)
The 6’4″ versatile, athletic forward was consistently one of the best players at the camp despite being just a sophomore. Walters is a very skilled finisher on the offensive end with both hands and is bouncy enough to get up and play around the rim. He has excellent upside on the defensive end of the floor as well as a guy who can guard just about every position. Has some excellent physical tools for his age.
