A variety of west coast teams made their way to Momentous Sports Center where the bracket-play style produced competitive games all weekend. Below is our fifth set of standouts from the 17u crop of talent.
Evan Record, Coastal Elite 2022 – Record, like he was for San Marcos high school, is a spark-plug scorer for Costal Elite. The 2022 guard has deep and consistent three-point shoot range that extended well-beyond the arc and is especially dangerous with his feet set off the catch. The 5-foot-9 senior-to-be is also a capable driver with good quickness off the bounce where he can draw defenders and find shooters.
Damian Ruiz Damian Ruiz 6'2" | SG Linfield Christian | 2022 State CA-S , Gamepoint Inland Empire – Ruiz is consistently among the top shooters on the Prep Hoops Circuit and nothing was different during the Hustle Region Finals. The 2022 guard has a quick release, balanced and fluid form, and doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off. Ruiz was always a big time shooter off the catch, but it was good to see him make some strides off the bounce from the mid-range level and creating space for step-back three-point shots.
Donovan Sterling Donovan Sterling 6'3" | SF Harrison | 2022 State CO , L.O.B Elite – Sterling is an active, long and bouncy wing pushing 6-feet-5. While he’s still fairly raw from an offensive skill standpoint, the 2022 prospect out of Harrison High in Colorado plays with good energy and a high motor in transition which results in paint buckets on the break. Sterling’s physical attributes make us think he has the chance to be a versatile and disruptive on-ball defender at the next level.
Sidney Wooten Sidney Wooten 5'10" | PG Phh Prep | 2022 State AZ , Arizona Select 2022 Showtime – Wooten was among the quickest and most dynamic open-court guards in the Hustle Region Finals. The 6-foot-1, class of 2022 point guard was always looking to push the pace in transition to put pressure on the defense and generate early offense. While some would border on becoming out of control at the pace Wooten plays at, he kept things controlled and made smart decisions on when to attack the basket and pull the ball out and run offense.
