A variety of west coast teams made their way to Momentous Sports Center where the bracket-play style produced competitive games all weekend. Below is our second set of standouts from the 17u crop of talent.
Jalen Foy Jalen Foy 6'5" | SF Canyon Springs | 2022 State NV , Nevada Hard 2 Guard – Foy was one of the better interior scorers we saw on the weekend. The 6-foot-5 four-man has great hands and footwork in tight quarters and can finish inside from different angles and on the move. Foy was an aggressive attacker of the basket when facing up from 15-feet and made a living on the offensive boards.
Landen Giles, Utah Force – Giles was one part of a really good Utah Force back-court duo. The 6-foot-1 senior-to-be takes the smart and high IQ approach to the game on both ends of the floor with his willingness to throw hit-ahead passes, create drive and kick opportunities for his teammates and create his own offense when needed. Giles showed a good first step which led into his pull-up mid-range jumper which he hit from multiple areas of the floor.
Ja’Kwon Hill, ABC New Mexico 2022 National – Hill was another member of the talented, championship-winning squad from New Mexico. The 6-footer was a spark-plug throughout the event, his high motor and defensive presence impacting the game on both sides of the floor. Hill showed his combination of strength and speed in the transition and half-court settings as he blew-by or bullied his way into the paint for high percentage finishes or high IQ dishes to open teammates. Hill also hit consistently from three-point range both off the catch and off the dribble.
Demetrius Howard, Jr., Nevada Hard 2 Guard – It’s always good to see a guy make the most of his minutes and Howard, Jr. did just that. The 6-foot-7 forward came off the bench for Nevada Hard 2 Guard with great energy on both ends of the floor. Howard contested shots around the basket, rebounded at a high rate, ran the floor hard and caught and finished around the basket off of rim-runs.
