A variety of west coast teams made their way to Momentous Sports Center where the bracket-play style produced competitive games all weekend. Below is our first set of standouts from the 16u crop of talent.
Luke Brewer, Roots Academy 2023 – Turns out Brewer is a multiple-sport athlete and the way in which he hoops definitely shows that. The 6-foot guard did a little bit of everything on the floor for Roots Academy from locking up on defense to offensive and defensive rebounding to slashing and finishing around the basket. Brewer is a high motor two way player who plays with intensity and toughness.
Quinton Christman Quinton Christman 5'10" | PG Murray | 2024 State UT , Utah Force 2023 – Christman is a game-managing style point guard who showed good decision-making in transition and half-court settings. The class of 2024 prospect has good strength and speed in his compact 5-foot-9 frame which helps him absorb bumps on drives and stay on balance and under control. Christman possesses a high basketball IQ, great passing instincts and an all-around true point guard feel that allows him to run the show for his team.
Carter Davis, Utah Force 2023 – Davis is a wiry left-handed prospect who showed inside-out scoring ability in this event. The 6-foot-5, class of 2023 wing out of Sky View high school has a smooth shooting stroke with great shot prep prior to a pass being delivered. Davis also showed an effective shot fake and ball skills to get by a close-out and into the paint where he finished with a floater or found an open shooter.
Euan Davis, Coastal Elite 2023 – Davis is a strong and quick combo guard who is tough for defenders to keep in front due to his explosive first step. Davis plays well through contacts and seeks it out on drives to the rim in order to create space from shot blockers and finish at the cup. The 6-foot, class of 2024 prospect brings great energy to the floor and is always in attack mode when the ball is in his hands.
Andreas Engholm, Roots Academy 2023 – If we handed out awards for performances during this event, Engholm would receive most skilled big man honors. The 6-foot-7 forward showed inside-out scoring feel with this soft-touched baby hook over his left shoulder and pick-and-pop three-point shooting touch. Engholm is also a really good passer out of the post when drawing doubles and hitting open shooters or cutters.
