Everyone loves to shoot the 3-ball, and some of these players can hit the mid-range jumper as well. In today’s game, a top shooter can be a game-changer. Look below for our game-changers from beyond the arc.
Alphabetically, here are the players that looked the best at shooting the rock from the 2023 Class.
Brandon Stuart |6’2 G| Prescott/Border Select Adamcazk
He has great timing when shooting the rock. Stuart has a nice and high release that allows him to shoot over smaller defenders. His release is smooth like butter. I like the way he reacts to his defender and how finds the soft spot to get his shot off. Brandon shoots it with confidence. Stuart is a high-quality shooter from Wisconsin.
Collin Archer |6’3 G| Rosemount/Minnesota Magic Elite
He is a big-time shooter. I like the way he squares up before getting the ball. Archer has very good feet. I like that he does not rush his shot and he leaves no room for error. This kid can fill-it-up from deep.
Ethan Pack |6’0 G| Hayfield/MN Rise
He looked to be a fluid shooter from beyond the arc. Pack has a nice fundamental shooting form. His balance, feet, and follow-through looked consistent and in sync. Ethan can be an impact player from the 3-point arc.
Jake Thompsen |6’1 G| Waukesha West/National Basketball Academy
He was hitting triples on Saturday and Sunday when I watched him. Jake may have used screens better than anyone I saw all weekend. He was very good at getting open on BLOBS and knocking down the shot. Thompsen is always moving and he is always ready to catch and shoot.
Landyn Nelson |6’2 G| Andover/Northstar Titans
He looks to be the sharpshooter for his team. Nelson is a huge threat from long range. I watched him hit many 3’s throughout the weekend. He did most of his damage in catch-and-shoot situations. I thought his trail 3’s in transition looked like some of the best. I imagine he will be draining 3’s all winter long with Andover as well.
Mason Engel |5’11 G| Catholic Memorial/ABC Young Lions White
His high release allows him to get his shot off with a man in his grill. Engel has flawless shooting form with a picturesque follow-through. He seems to be most effective at shooting the triple in catch-and-shoot situations. Mason did not force any shots and he took quality in-rhythm shots. Engel is absolutely a 3-point threat that opposing teams need to account for.
Matt Eng |6-0 G| O’gorman/Sacred Hoops
He is a bonafide 3-point shooter and mid-range artist. Eng has great form and soft touch. You can see the ball come off his hand perfectly and the rotation is always excellent. Matt gets his shot off quickly, but he does not rush it. He can get hot in a hurry and stay that way. Matt is a serious marksman from SD.
Sam Senske |6’3 G/F| Hawley/Next Level Basketball Academy
His mid-range pull-up game was as good as I saw at Jefferson. Senske has a great shot and an unbelievable feel for the game. He gives off an old-school vibe and craftiness with the way he shoots. Senske has a high release and a soft touch. He is deadly from 15 feet out to college range.
Tommy Fritsch |6’2 G| Greendale/ABC Young Lions Teal
He drilled many three-pointers in the game that I watched. Tommy is an effortless shooter from downtown. The left-wing looked to be his hot spot. Fritsch appears to be a dynamite shooter from downtown.
Zach Livingood |5’10 G| Fargo Davies/Next Level Basketball Academy
He has a great stroke from beyond the arc. Zach’s shooting release and his flick of the wrist while shooting look close to perfect. He can get his shot off in a hurry. I like the way he sprints into his shot and how he breaks down right before he gets the rock. Livingood has quick and proper feet. Look out, there is another Eagles that can shoot it.
