The Prep Hoops Grit Region Finals, along with the other regional finals held around the country, capped off the month while crowing some champions along the way. Before closing the book on the summer basketball scene we will take a look at the top performers from the weekend in Indiana’s Class of 2023. We’ve already covered the point guards and wings, now we dive into the forwards/centers.
Keaton Buuck Keaton Buuck 6'6" | PF Crown Point | 2023 IN (Crown Point H.S. 2023/Indiana Game 2023 Premier)
Buuck has been an underrated piece of Indiana Game’s strong month of July. The mobile 6’6″ post runs the floor well, can rebound outside of his area, and moves his feet on the defensive end of the floor. His offensive skill set continues to develop, but he is already a very good finisher with either hand around the rim. High motor kid that contributes to winning on both ends.
Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023/INB 2023 Elite)
I’ve written a lot about this guy all summer long because he is one of the most intriguing prospects in the class in my opinion. Doughty has an incredibly high ceiling standing a true 6’9″ with a ton of length and ability to be a true difference maker on the defensive end of the floor. He posts up really hard on offensively, has nice post moves going over both shoulders, and rebounds at a high level. D1/D2 coaches should be involved right now.
JaQualon Roberts JaQualon Roberts 6'8" | PF Bloomington North | 2023 State IN (Bloomington H.S. North 2023/IE Blaze Select 2022)
Roberts played up this past weekend with IE Blaze Select and battled an apparent shoulder issue, but with his talent he absolutely deserves mention here. He has one of the highest upsides in the state with his athleticism and skill level as a 6’7″ forward. Roberts is super bouncy, can shoot the three, and handles the ball more like a wing than a forward. The sky is the limit for the Bloomington North product.
James Stasey James Stasey 6'9" | C Fishers | 2023 State IN (Fishers H.S. 2023/Grand Park Premier 2023 Black)
This 6’9″ five-man was one I hadn’t seen much of at all heading into the Grit Region Finals. Stasey really impressed me Friday night not only with his obvious height, but with the way he ran the floor and rebounded the ball in his area. He is disruptive on the defensive end and finished some tough putbacks on the offensive glass. Solid big man to keep an eye on.
Brandon Trilli Brandon Trilli 6'5" | SF Munster | 2023 State IN (Munster H.S. 2023/Indiana Game 2023 Premier)
Trilli made a name for himself all summer long and capped it off with a great showing at the Grit Region Finals. At 6’4″, Trilli could easily be considered a wing, but he is so dominant and skilled inside the arc that I saved him for this section. The move-in from Arizona went off for 28 points in the quarterfinals and showed off an ever-improving outside shot over the weekend. He is just an absolute bucket-getter and should have huge numbers at Munster this season. Remember the name.
