Can they defend multiple positions? How is their decision making? The 5 guys on this list showed just this and make my list of top SFs from this Summer.
Sean Craig Sean Craig 6'6" | PF Sylvania Northview | 2022 State OH (2022)– Craig has one of the higher motors you’ll find in Ohio and had it on full display at Ballin’ Under 1 Roof. The 6-foot-5 Northview star has great athleticism and makes his impact on the wings. Impressed me with his rebounding skill as he grabbed the ball with two hands and secured boards over bigger defenders. Obviously could hit perimeter shots but also succeeded in getting to the rim off the drive and got to the free throw line time and time again. Craig has become a priority D2 target Regionally.
Gavin Headings Gavin Headings 6'8" | PF Pickerington Central | 2023 State OH (2023)- Headings is a great combo big as he has good length as well as a solid frame. The most obvious thing you notice about Headings is his arm length. This allowed him to be a force on the glass as he secured at least 6 offensive rebounds in a half while watching him at Ballin Under 1 Roof for Nova Village. The 6-foot-7 Pickerington Central product can defend either wings or smaller PFs with his quickness. Headings can definitely be a force for the Tigers and should continue to see strides in his recruitment.
Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ (2023)– Watching Griffith play, it is obvious why he is considered the best player in the 2023 class in Ohio. I did not see him during AAU season, but instead watched as Griffith dominated with Taft in HS play. The 6-foot-6 slasher can score in every imaginable way. Beat guys off the bounce? Check. Pull-up jumper either contested or open? Check. Perimeter shooting? Check. Griffith has continued to work on his on-ball defense and now has become a nightmare on the perimeter with his athleticism and length. High major guard with offers from several schools including UCLA,
Jackson McGohan (2023)– McGohan impressed me while watching him compete with Miamisburg in the June HS. The 6-foot-5 two sport stud showed he is the Vikings go to offensive weapon on the offensive end. Specifically impressed with his scoring ability with a D1 prospect ( Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ ) defending him. His athleticism and size makes it hard to contain him and Taft found out this first hand. McGohan rebounds the ball with a purpose and goes up with two hands. No surprise he excels on the football field as well as the basketball court. Depending on which sport he chooses to go forward with will determine if he is worth looking into for D3 programs in the state.
Ben Southerland Ben Southerland 6'7" | PF Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy | 2022 State #247 Nation OH (2022)– Southerland exploded in July finding multiple D1 offers coming in after performing well with Midwest Basketball Club. The 6-foot-7 Sycamore star has a great mix of athleticism and size that was able to be put on display with unselfish guards on his team. Southerland is disciplined and focused on the fundamentals which is a major reason why we are seeing schools begin to offer him. Expect a breakout season with Sycamore especially as he prepares to face the tough competition within the GMC.
