Throughout the season, several point guards impressed me. But only a select few are deserving of special recognition. Below were some of my favorite PGs to watch this Summer.
Nate Adkins (2022)– Adkins was one of the smarter players I saw this Summer. Very high basketball IQ and very detail oriented to the basics. Between playing with Midwest Basketball Club and Lakota East, Adkins showed versatility with his leadership at the point while also being a scoring option on the perimeter with his shooting. Tons of upside for college coaches looking for a solid prospect.
Antaune Allen Antaune Allen 6'2" | CG Dunbar | 2023 State OH (2023)- Whether it was with Team Flyght or with Dayton Dunbar, Allen consistently showed a knack for scoring the ball and being a playmaker for himself and teammates. Slashed off the perimeter and scored through traffic. Possesses a great midrange jump shot off the bounce. Scored against good defensive teams like Fairfield (OH) in the HS Summer ball. Only a junior, Allen has another two years to continue growing and working on his game. No denying though this Summer was big for his growth.
Sean Jones Sean Jones 5'10" | PG Gahanna | 2022 State #102 Nation OH (2022)- Simply put, Jones was incredible this Summer. Already known in the state, Jones showed great skill against Nationally ranked kids while running on the EYBL with All-Ohio Red. Jones possesses elite speed and ball control. Utilized the floater when he found the paint and got by anyone that guarded him when I watched him at the Grassroots Showcase. He recently announced his Top 3 which include Marquette, Pittsburgh, and Xavier.
Collin O’Conner (2023)– O’Conner played well with 937 Hoop Dreams and also competed well at the OHSBCA Showcase in June. O’Conner has good size for a PG and showed confidence putting the ball on the floor against Ohio United back in May. Definitely worked on his speed and quickness over the offseason and was getting by defenders with ease. Picked up a D1 offer from USC Upstate after his showing in June.
Kobe Peck Kobe Peck 6'0" | PG Lakota East | 2022 State OH (2022)- Peck has great poise and isn’t startled easily when facing defensive pressure. He only needed 1-2 moves to get by defenders and had impressive changes of speed and direction. His patience allows him to make good passes to teammates and set guys up to score. Especially did well with his Lakota East teammates at the Oak Hills Shootout in June.
Aiden Porter Aiden Porter 6'1" | PG Fairland | 2022 State OH (2022)- Porter is the only player on this list currently committed as the Fairland and Mid Ohio Pumas guard will be attending Rio Grande next Fall. True point guard and backcourt leader. Great second level speed and gets by defenders with ease. Vocal defensively and understands basic help side movements and coverages. Will have a chance to be one of Southeast Ohio’s top players and scorers this upcoming season.
