Here’s a list of prospects I can’t wait to see in person when this high school basketball season starts.
Ian Smikle Ian Smikle 6'9" | C Suncoast | 2024 State FL | 2024
Smikle’s freshman season shaped him for a productive summer. He was already on my radar after catching social media highlights, but it’s his performance at the Elite 32 that flashed his upside. Now standing 6-9 and looking more mobile than in previous settings, I want to see what he does as a focal point of an offense. His Nightrydas 15U squad was loaded with regional and national talent, leading to limited minutes during EYBL play. As a developing big man with size, an ability to finish at the rim, and the mobility to protect the paint, Smikle will have me in Suncoast High School several times this season.
Dontrell Jenkins Dontrell Jenkins 5'10" | PG Santa Fe | 2023 State FL | 2023
Jenkins walked off the high school stage scoring 31 points in a state final loss as a sophomore against a 5-star backcourt. His running mate Ernest Ross Ernest Ross 6'9" | PF Santa Fe | 2021 State #57 Nation FL is with the NC State Wolfpack, so he’ll be the first option on a young team with returning talent. The summer didn’t slow down his production. He tallied double digit scoring outings at every event and highlighted his decision making. Going into the 2021-2022 season as a junior Jenkins will look to put both his shooting and playmaking skills on display to match Santa Fe’s playoff run.
Brice Sensabaugh Brice Sensabaugh 6'6" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #104 Nation FL | 2022
Sensabaugh has already cemented himself as a high major prospect with 20+ offers to date. Yet with his name a buzz on social media and strong showings during the EYBL, he’s bound for a rise in the national ranking. All his skill was on display at the Fantastic 40. He’s big, he’s strong, and an aggressive scoring threat. The senior with a top 8 dominated by SEC schools shot well beyond three college range. He took guys off the dribble powering through contact finishes, pushed it on the break, and played solid perimeter defense. Expect another stacked high school schedule to show his game against high caliber talent. Sensabaugh released his top four list days ago with Florida, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, and Alabama all waiting to get his signature.
Mykol Sanchez | 2022
It seemed like Sanchez’s presence grew with every event I watched him in. His size and playmaking came up big in the first Adidas session. In session two, it was his shooting and slashing that fueled big wins in Council Bluffs. At the Fantastic 40, Sanchez put all of those things together, putting his passing and transition play on full display in one of the most stacked season ending tournaments. Sanchez already has a state title and will look to lead a loaded, returning group back to the stage. He’s one of two guards returning to a 30-5 squad, so expect the 6-6 guard to have more time pushing the offense.
