Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6'1" | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH , 6’1 PG Centerville 2023: Cupps has improved his stock greatly in the past six months, winning a state title and helping lead Midwest Basketball Club 17U to one of the best marks of any grassroots team in the nation. Cupps is showing his worth as a PG that college coaches will love with his intangibles and toughness. Cupps is proving that he can perform in big games and produce on the biggest stages. I’ve seen some struggles from Cupps against quicker guards defending him, but his consistent play was enough for me to make him the top PG in his class in the state. Cupps is also an underrated defender, he’s got a frame that prevents opposing guards to overpower him. Cupps will be hoping to go back-to-back with Centerville this winter/spring.
Lawrent Rice Lawrent Rice 6'4" | PG Huber Heights Wayne | 2023 State #184 Nation OH , 6’4 PG Huber Heights Wayne 2023: Rice has been considered a top 3 prospect in this class and while he dropped in our statewide rankings, I still expect him to appear in national lists when those are updated. Rice is a monster athlete who was throwing down tons of transition dunks in the EYBL this July. The biggest question for Rice will be if he can make enough jumpers to keep the defense honest. Rice really struggled from the perimeter during the EYBL session, and with closer scouting at the college level, this weakness will be magnified. If Rice can get back to the level he was shooting at for Wayne during his sophomore season, that will be a huge development for his game. High major programs are lining up for Rice and I expect his offers list to continue to grow.
Ryan Nutter Ryan Nutter 6'3" | PG Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH , 6’4 PG Dublin Jerome 2023: Nutter is potentially the best passer in this class in the state of Ohio. His size allows him to see over the defense and Nutter is always playing at his own pace. Nutter is another prospect that needs to improve his shooting to be an actual scoring threat. Dublin Jerome has a lot of talent in the 2023 class and has the chance to jump onto the scene in central Ohio next season. Nutter will be the leader of a team with increased expectations from the past couple years.
Kenny Satterfield Jr Kenny Satterfield Jr 6'2" | PG Patrick School | 2023 State #242 Nation NJ , 6’2 PG 2023: Satterfield Jr is the son of former NBA player Kenny Satterfield. He came from New York heading into his Sophomore season however it is uncertain where he will be playing his Junior season with. Satterfield plays with good pace, switching speeds to keep the defense on its toes. I thought Satterfield and Seck Zongo Seck Zongo 6'6" | SF Patrick | 2023 State NJ had good chemistry when I watched them together in June, it would be exciting if both players were to stay in the Cincy area for their junior seasons.
Khoi Thurmon Khoi Thurmon 6'1" | PG Buchtel | 2023 State OH , 6’2 PG Buchtel 2023: Thurmon is joining former Copley teammate Amire Robinson Amire Robinson 6'4" | SF Buchtel | 2023 State OH at Buchtel this upcoming season, teaming up with Chris Livingston Chris Livingston 6'6" | SF Oak Hill Academy | 2022 State #9 Nation VA and company. Buchtel will have high expectations this season, hoping to compete for a state title this season. Thurmon is another PG that has impressive ball-handling and scoring abilities. I’d like to see Thurmon develop a more consistent right hand during his junior season. Northeast Ohio fans will probably be watching a lot of the Grifs next season.
