Today, we start a series highlighting players in each class that are under-recruited or under-appreciated coming out of the summer. We began by highlighting five Indiana guards in the Class of 2022 that are currently being under-recruited. Now, let’s check out the wings that college coaches need to be getting after a little more.
Richard Brooks Richard Brooks 6'3" | SF Mishawaka Marian | 2022 State IN (Mishawaka Marian H.S. 2022)
Brooks is a super-skilled guard/wing that can really play anywhere from the 1-3 offensively. The 6’2″ scorer shoots it very well from beyond the arc with excellent range. He creates his own shots off of the dribble and has the ability to hit though threes off of the ballscreen. When attacking the basket he has a very quick first step, tight handles, and elevates well on his jump shot that he gets into quickly. He is an above-the-rim finisher when attacking closeouts and can really get cooking from three-point range making him a multi-dimensional scorer that is hard to stop. If you need a scorer, make sure Brooks is on your list.
Matthew Brown Matthew Brown 6'5" | SF Homeschool | 2022 State IN (Homeschool 2022)
In-state NAIA’s need to be taking a serious look at Brown if they are not already. At 6’5″ with a long, athletic frame he brings a ton of versatility to both ends of the floor. Brown has shot the ball pretty well throughout the summer and also has the skill to get to the basket off of the bounce. It isn’t a huge surprise that a homeschool kid would fly a little under-the-radar, but Brown has the talent to be a scholarship level player. He can finish above the rim when he drives it, rebounds the ball well from the wing, and has the tools to guard multiple positions defensively.
Chad Cox Chad Cox 6'4" | SF Franklin County | 2022 State IN (Franklin County H.S. 2022)
Cox is an athletic 6’4″ wing that loves to attack the basket. With his athleticism and strength he is a very good finisher inside with both hands and can get up to play above the rim. The Franklin County product is excellent at attacking closeouts showing off the ability to drive it consistently either way and score both at the rim and from the intermediate range with pull-ups and floaters. Cox is a good shooter but is at his best when he is able to create off of the dribble going to the basket. Good ball handler than can break his man down from the perimeter. Really like his burst with the ball and explosiveness at the rim. Talented offensive player.
A.J. Dixon A.J. Dixon 6'5" | SF Merrillville | 2022 State IN (Merrillville H.S. 2022)
The multi-positional Merrillville wing has developed into one of the most intriguing prospects in the state. At 6’5″, Dixon is incredibly physical coupled with explosive athleticism. He does a lot of his work inside around the paint where he is in an excellent finisher. Dixon is explosive enough to elevate and finish above the rim and is also quick in a straight line which allows him to drive by his man from the wings. He is a great rebounder both offensively and defensively too. Dixon holds a couple of NAIA offers, but this is a prospect that could really blow up during his senior season.
Chandler Jackson Chandler Jackson 6'5" | SF Warren Central | 2022 State IN (Warren Central H.S. 2022)
Jackson is a 6’5″ long, athletic wing that brings a lot of versatility to the table. A lot of his allure to college coaches is what he can do on the defensive end of the floor. He moves his feet very well with nice technique, has all the length to be disruptive on and off the ball, and is big enough to go against bigger guys when needed. Very high ceiling on that end of the floor. Offensively, he continues to develop more and more. Jackson can make open threes and loves driving it right in a straight line from the wings. Explosive in transition. Finishes above the rim. Don’t be too late with this kid! He is a winner.
