The NCAA provided 6 Live Period Days in June (June 18th – 20th June 25th-27th) and 9 Days in July (July 8th – 11th, July 21st -26th). Some players used this period to justify their rankings, others as a way to catch the eyes of coaches and scouts. In this article, a follow-up to Summer Stockrisers Vol 1 we take a look at some local players who used the summer to raise their stock.
Souleymane Barro 6’7 PF Layton Christian 2023 – Barro was the only big in the state to play on the EYBL. That fact alone warrants some recognition, when you add in what he brings on the court, it’s easy to see why he’s considered a stock riser. The long-armed post man is a versatile defender, that has shown the ability to hedge and switch ball screens. He’s a tough rebounder as well, capable of mixing it up in traffic and coming down with the board. After a summer spent battling high major bigs, expect big things from him at LC this year.
Quinton Christman Quinton Christman 5'10" | PG Murray | 2024 State UT 5’10 PG Murray 2024 (#31PHU 2024) (featured image) – Christman is a crafty, high IQ PG that spent time playing on the PrepHoops Circuit this season. He’s one of those players that just seems to produce. He’s not the fastest player but can beat his man, he’s not known as a shooter, yet can knock down clutch shots. Overall his best skill is his ability to make others around him better. If he does that this season at Murray, then expect his stock to trend upward.
Kreyton Jenks 6’2 SG Ridgeline 2023 – Got to see Jenks run with Utah Hard Knox this summer. The sniper certainly lived up to his billing as a shooter. When he got his feet set, the 6’2 sharpshooter proved to be one of the most accurate shooters from distance. Expect the Sophomore’s shooting to be even more of a factor for Ridgeline this season, which will allow his stock to rise.
Jake Payne Jake Payne 6'1" | PG Timpanogos | 2022 State UT 6’1 CG Timpangos 2022 (#81PHU 2022) – It’s clear what you’re getting when Payne is on the floor. The combo guard is a big-time floor spacer, with the ability to change the scoreboard with his 3 point shooting. He’s primarily a catch-and-shoot guy but his accuracy forces defenders to stay attached. He had some quality shooting performances this summer playing with the Salt Lake Rebels.
Russell Gibson Russell Gibson 6'2" | CG Eagle | 2024 State ID 6’2 CG RSL 2024 (#21PHU 2024) – It’s difficult to pinpoint the skill I like most of Gibson. He’s a deep shooting threat with the ability to knock down threes. He also can make plays for his teammates with his driving and accurate passing. He will be transferring from Wasatch to Real Salt Lake this season, which should provide him with more playing time opportunities, which in turn will help his stock rise.
Chance Dalstrup 5’9 PG Orem 2025 – It’s called moxie. That’s exactly what Dalstrup has. The PG is a Wizard with the basketball who despite not being the fastest player on the court, always seems to be faster than his opponent. He’s an advanced passer for his age, with excellent vision and a knack for putting the ball right into the hands of teammates.
Bowen Hammer Bowen Hammer 6'8" | CG Fairmont Prep Academy | 2023 CA-S 6’5 SG Snow Canyon 2023 – Hammer really raised his profile this summer. Thought of as a post player only a year ago, the 6’5 Hammer has transitioned into a wing with the ability to shoot it and score off the bounce. His summer with the Addidas sponsored LV Knicks didn’t hurt either, as he was able to raise his profile while playing against quality competition.
