The NCAA provided 6 Live Period Days in June (June 18th – 20th June 25th-27th) and 9 Days in July (July 8th – 11th, July 21st -26th). Some players used this period to justify their rankings, others as a way to catch the eyes of coaches and scouts. In this article, we take a look at some local players who used the summer to raise their stock.
Dylan Jones Dylan Jones 6'6" | SG Westlake | 2022 State UT 6’6 SF West Lake 2022 (#21PHU 2022) – Jones has had a hot shooting summer. Playing with the Salt Lake Rebels, the wing has shown off his #1 skillset against some of the top programs on the West Coast. The 6’6 wing is a knock-down shooter, but he also has shown that he can make plays for himself. He recently led SLR to a championship at the Big Time tournament in Las Vegas, earning a scholarship offer from Alberta University along the way.
McCaden Adams McCaden Adams 6'3" | CG Pleasant Grove | 2022 State UT 6’4 SG Pleasant Grove 2022 (#11PHU 2022) – If you’re not paying attention, Adams may just dunk on you. The fundamentally sound PG has some sneaky athletic ability and is not afraid to sacrifice his body for a highlight-reel dunk. He’s used the summer to play himself into a scholarship athlete.
Kyle Lemke Kyle Lemke 6'9" | C Dixie | 2024 State UT 6’7 PF Dixie 2024 (#9PHU 2024) (featured image) – Lemke isn’t flashy, but he’s efficient. Every game, the 6’7 post shows a little more improvement. Lemke has soft hands and good fundamentals on his post-ups. He keeps the ball high on offensive rebounds allowing him to quickly finish putbacks. Perhaps his best skill is his dedication to running the floor. Lemke is a floor sprinter that stretches defenses with his willingness to rim run.
Isaac Garrett Isaac Garrett 6'8" | SF Pleasant Grove | 2023 State UT 6’7 SF Pleasant Grove 2023 (#16PHU 2023) – Garrett is a long rangy wing that really shoots the rock. He’s also one of the few H.S players I’ve seen, willing to communicate on the defensive end. You can catch Garrett instructing teammates from the backline, making him a defensive anchor. Besides his shooting, the wing has the ability to get to the rim off the bounce as well. The Juniors size and skill, should make for intriguing assets for someone.
Lukas Sorenson 6’6 SF Ridgeline 2023 – The first time I watched Sorenson play, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He’s a bouncy athlete that is fearless when attacking the rim. You can find him scoring in transition, or slashing to the cup off the bounce. His combination of size and athleticism is going to be attractive to some team. The two-sport athlete carries a 4.0 GPA making him one of the top high academic players in the state.
