They know what to say, at just the right time. They put their team ahead of their own stats, and they ensure that others around them succeed.
Here are some of those figurative ‘coaches on the floor’ on the big high school level (in alphabetical order):
Carson Kieffer Carson Kieffer 6'1" | PG Hays | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2022, Hays HS:
Ask Kieffer’s Western Kansas Elite coaches about the good things he brings to the team, and you’ll be there for a while. They can’t stop praising the leadership and maturity of the Hays senior. Kieffer will be back to quarterback a really talented Hays group, for which he dished out a remarkable 6.5 assists per game as a junior.
Geremiah Moore Geremiah Moore 5'9" | CG West | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2022, Wichita Northwest HS:
Moore is a solid ball handler who is command of the game from the point guard spot. He’s calm under attack and never puts his own stats ahead of the needs of the team. For a club team that bring together a collection of players from different schools, Moore is the glue for Team Perry Ellis.
Garrett Robertson Garrett Robertson 5'10" | PG Hutchinson | 2023 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Hutchinson HS:
Oz Elite hands the reigns to Robertson and lets him run the collection of talented offensive talents. He is smart with the ball and has great vision, taking pride in being the straw that stirs the drink. Throw in that he shot with great precision this summer, and you have a point man who drew rave reviews this summer.
Kellan Simoneau Kellan Simoneau 6'2" | PG Rose Hill | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Rose Hill HS:
For both TBB KS and Rose Hill, Simoneau embodies the pass-first, team-first point guard. He is constantly probing with his eyes up, seeking to set up a teammate for a scoring opportunity. He is smooth and calm with the ball, keeping the offense under control. Simoneau’s length and athleticism enhance his passing repertoire.
Marcus Zeigler Jr Marcus Zeigler Jr 6'2" | PG Wichita Heights | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Wichita Heights HS (pictured):
Take nothing away from the elite performers listed above. But Zeigler sets the standard for all Kansas point guards. This should come as no surprise, when you consider that his father was a fine Division 1 trigger man himself. He’s got the vision and anticipation to get the ball on time to the right spot. His ball handling is impeccable. And when he needs to, he can put the offense on his back and create his own shot.
