For this article, I’ll include the names of 2024 prospects in the MD/DC area that I believe will see a significant boost in their production and stat line that will ultimately result in a super sophomore season.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6'7" | CG IMG Academy | 2024 #15 Nation FL | Mount St. Joseph
Tucker took a unique path this spring and summer by opting not to play AAU. Instead, he put full focus on making the Team USA U16 roster and was successful in doing so. The 6-foot-5 guard brought home a gold medal and now has his name being recognized on a national level. For the Gaels this season Tucker will have the ball in his hands more often and be counted on in large portions of games to initiate offense. The addition of 2023 Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD paired with the development of others such as 2022 Aidan Mess Aidan Mess 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2022 State MD , 2023 Austin Abrams Austin Abrams 6'3" | SG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MD and 2023 Ace Valentine Ace Valentine 6'2" | PG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MD will only open more opportunities for Tucker to showcase is play making and three-level scoring ability.
Khani Rooths Khani Rooths 6'7" | SF IMG Academy | 2024 State #16 Nation FL | Georgetown Prep
Along with Tucker, Rooths has emerged not only as a top prospect in the MD/DC area, but the entire region. Rooths impressed at DMV Live with his versatility on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-7 wing is electric in transition and continues to develop his shot-making ability from mid-range and from three.
Donavan Freeman Donavan Freeman 6'9" | PF IMG Academy | 2024 #34 Nation FL | St. John’s DC
Freeman will take on a bigger role with St. John’s this season after the news of 2023 Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD transferring to Mount St. Joseph. The 6-foot-9 forward continues to develop his overall game at a steady pace and showcased his perimeter skills off in spurts through the summer with Team Takeover. Look for Freeman to be a presence on both ends of the floor and be a critical piece as St. John’s hunts for a WCAC title.
Jaeden Mustaf Jaeden Mustaf 6'4" | SG OTE | 2024 #51 Nation GA | DeMatha
Mustaf has great command with the ball and is a fun watch when he gets downhill to attack the rim. He never shies away from contact and can finish with rim-rocking fashion when the opportunity presents. He’s a fiery competitor that gets after it on both ends and although the Stags’ backcourt is loaded with older talent, Mustaf should see a significant uptick in his numbers.
AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA | DeMatha
Swinton logged respectable minutes last season as a freshman and should step in as an impact piece this season on the wing. At 6-foot-7, Swinton brings size, versatility and shot-making to a lineup that features high-level play makers. He’ll also be a presence on the glass and a terror in transition with his finishing ability.
