It’s impossible to see every player. And some top 2024s (the Thengvall twins from Wichita, in particular) were not seen by our scouts this summer. But from what we saw this summer, this second team is a crew on the rise.
Top Summer Performers, 2024 – Second Team:
Bryce Beisner Bryce Beisner 6'7" | PF Beloit | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-5 forward, SSA Hoops Elite, Beloit:
Beisner had already been pushed by playing varsity as a freshman. He continued to stretch himself this summer with SSA, where his height doesn’t give him such an advantage. He worked stretch his game away from the post, and made a great impression. He came in with solid post moves and a nice jumper. He is quick and agile, with the coordination to face the basket and to run the floor. He blocks shots and is physical on the defensive end.
Mason English Mason English 6'2" | SG Pittsburg | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, Victory Ministry, Pittsburg HS:
English was a prolific scorer this summer, turning in some lofty numbers (46 points in one recent club contest!). He has a deadly shot from deep and no fear to let it go. The 3-point shot is, without question, his top asset, but he can put the ball on the floor and create enough to score at every level. He uses his stocky build to drive through traffic and to be a bully in the lane. It’s going to be interesting to see if he can translate his brilliant scoring ability to the high school game.
Sylvester Jackson, 6-foot-3 forward, SSA Hoops Elite, Junction City HS:
Jackson has impressed as a hard-working, team-first big. He has nice post moves and is developing a more well-rounded game. He runs the floor hard and plays with discipline. He can hit a midrange jumper, catch and score on the move, and bury a defender on the low block. He combines his length with an intensity to be a presence on the glass.
Michael Kates Michael Kates 5'9" | PG Maize South | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, TBB KS, Wichita Collegiate HS (pictured):
Kates jumped out as a top guard on the high school level as a rookie. Now he’s impressing the club circuit, drawing rave reviews for his ball handling, scoring ability and defense. He can score in bunches without abandoning the point-guard’s first priority. He drives and kicks to shooters effectively, and keeps the game under control. He has a quick first step, and the burst to get through a defense and to the rim. His accuracy from deep shouldn’t be overlooked either. He has the whole game for a point guard.
Blake Kilian Blake Kilian 6'6" | SF Blue Valley West | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, KC Spurs Silver, Blue Valley West HS:
Kilian is a physically-developed guy for the 2024 class, and he plays with power in the lane. He turned in a lot of good performances this summer, catching the eye of Prep Hoops reporters everywhere he went. He runs the court well and chases down plays at both ends. He is tough around the rim, and can move to the perimeter to shoot or put the ball on the floor.
