It’s impossible to see every player. And some top 2023s ( Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6'2" | CG Maize | 2023 KS !) were not in action where we could see them. But from what we saw this summer, this is the second team, which includes a couple of smaller school guys who played up.
Top Summer Performers, 2023 – Second Team:
Jack Bachelor Jack Bachelor 6'0" | CG Washburn Rural | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, Marcus Denmon, Washburn Rural HS:
Bachelor continues to develop physically and in his ability to get things done at every level. He gets in position to make quality feeds to shooters and has the court vision to make the best decisions with the ball. He can score on the move or spotting up for catch-and-shoot opportunities. Routinely scoring in double figures for his club team bodes well for the Junior Blues, who are going to need to replace a lot of scoring lost to graduation.
Britton Dutton Britton Dutton 6'0" | SG Argo Comm | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, Midwest Magic Elite, Ellinwood HS:
Dutton chose to challenge himself by playing up a grade this summer, joining the Midwest Magic Elite 2022 group. He was up to the task, showing that he can handle the ball and defend against top level competition. There wasn’t much question about his ability to put the ball in the hole, and his creativity and penetration were on display.
Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-5 forward, SSA Hoops Elite, Basehor-Linwood HS:
Ruud’s game really grew this summer, and his athleticism continues to pop. He has a lot of inside-out ability, moving without the ball and finding openings to receive passes and score in the lane. He also showed good touch from deep this summer, making a tough guard for anyone who can match his height. At the defensive end he is disruptive and an active rebounder.
Eli Sawyers Eli Sawyers 6'7" | SF Southeast Of Saline | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-6 forward, Oz Elite, Southeast of Saline HS:
Like Dutton, Sawyers is a small-school standout who pushes himself against older competition in summer. Sawyers pops up with a few different club teams each summer. He continues to grow physically, and to develop his skills with the ball away from the goal. He’s got nice length and coordination in the lane, and now he’s showing increased ball handling and passing in transition, to go with his improving shot from the perimeter.
Kellan Simoneau Kellan Simoneau 6'2" | PG Rose Hill | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, TBB KS, Rose Hill HS (pictured):
Making things click for the ultra-talented Buddy Buckets group is the point guard. Although everyone on the team seems to be able to put the ball on the floor, Simoneau is the closest to a pure point guard. He continues to grow and get stronger. With his added length, his vision and court IQ just becomes all the more effective. He can get in the lane and calmly deal the ball to shooters. He is a pass-first guard, but he can hit the open shot from the perimeter or on penetration.
