It’s impossible to see every player. And some top 2023s ( Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6'2" | CG Maize | 2023 KS !) were not in action where we could see them. But from what we saw this summer, the first team collected several Buddy Buckets players.
Top Summer Performers, 2023 – First Team:
Eli Shetlar Eli Shetlar 6'4" | SG Andover | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-4 guard, TBB KS, Andover HS: (pictured)
Perhaps the player of the summer, Shetlar has grown physically, and his game has really gone to another level. He always had the smarts and the ball skills. But now he is finishing at the rim and using his length to make plays at both ends. Shetlar was deadly from deep this summer, and was adept at running the offense with a collection of talented players around him.
Will Anciaux Will Anciaux 6'6" | PF Kapaun Mt Carmel | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-6 forward, TBB KS, Kapaun HS:
The top-rated player in the class going into the summer did nothing to hurt his ranking. He’s a physical specimen who has football recruiters salivating. His combination of power, agility and coordination plays just as well on the court, and he was a handful for any opponent this summer. He runs the floor and handles the ball so well for a guy his size, has the spring to go get the ball in the air, and he has the power to bull his way through contact.
Chris Harris Chris Harris 6'6" | SF Andover | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-6 forward, TBB KS, Andover HS:
How can a guy with no varsity record explode like this? Harris has jumped on everyone’s radar, including Prep Hoops writers from other states who got the pleasure of seeing him on the road. (One writer recently called the rising-junior the MVP of a big showcase event). Harris has demonstrated ability to score inside and out, to put the ball on the floor, to shoot the open shot, and to defend. He’s about to become known in the school ranks like he did on the summer circuit.
Garrett Robertson Garrett Robertson 5'10" | PG Hutchinson | 2023 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, Oz Elite, Hutchinson HS:
Robertson has been getting it done against top competition for a couple of years now, and he continues to impress. He was deadly from deep this summer and he really knows how to run an offense and get the ball to scorers. He is creative and dynamic with the ball, one of the best pure point men in the state.
Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-4 guard, Drive 5, Aquinas HS:
An elite shooter in a somewhat similar mold to Shetlar, Rost is developing across the board. He showed this summer more ability to put the ball on the floor, make plays through traffic, and create opportunities for teammates. There was never any question about his ability to score from the perimeter, and his physical growth makes him even more deadly from deep.
