In this group you have players that have played well in the short high school season, and showed good progress during the Spring, and Summer with their club teams. It’s been a while since the last PH NorCal Rankings were updated. Some players made big jumps up the rankings, while other made a more subtle move up the ladder.

Sangster has made steady progress since the last rankings. There’s a case to be made for him to be the # 1 prospect in NorCal in this 2023 class. He was a key player in helping the Monarchs win the CCS Open Championship. Sangster a wiry lengthy player with an improving set of skills. He has good movements on the court, and an improved shot on the outside. He has good bounce, and length going after rebounds, his handles in the open court are improved as well.
Yaqub Mir Yaqub Mir 6'3" | SG Granite Bay | 2023 State CA-N 6’3 PG/SG of Granite Bay HS #21 to 5.
No player has put himself out there as much as Mir during the Spring and Summer. He’s competed at all the top level events and showed himself to be a top notch competitor. He’s a calm and steady player who’s productive on the court, at either guard position. He’s got the tools to effectively run a team, and score with a quality jump shot.

Squires has put himself squarely on the map in NorCal with his size, and productivity on the court. He’s improved his overall post production against quality competition on both ends. He has a good set of post moves he can score with, he’ll finish with either and and has a nice touch off the glass. Defensively he’s long armed, and takes up space with his body. He’ll rebound and change shots.
Jake Davis Jake Davis 6'9" | C Acalanes | 2023 State CA-N 6’9 Center of Acalanes HS #26 to 10
Size alone bumps Davis up a few notches. He’s a big with an improving set of skills, and a good understanding of his position. Over the Summer he’s competed against quality competition, and guys standing as tall as he is. He’s done okay in the post, defending his position, hauling in rebounds, and passing to open players on the court. He continues to improve on the offensive side of the ball.
Jalen Brown Jalen Brown 6'2" | SG Modesto Christian | 2023 State CA-N 6’3 Guard of Everett Alvarez HS #56 to 12
For various reasons some players don’t get the recognition. It wasn’t until we saw Brown play at a competitive level with his club team that we saw what kind of player he is. Brown is a good athletic basketball player who does good things on both sides of the ball. He handles the ball well, scoring different ways, taking it inside to finish strong at the rim, including dunks. He has a corner 3 he can hit. He’s long, has good foot speed, and defends multiple positions. He could move up!
Donovan Cooks Donovan Cooks 6'1" | PG Dublin | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 PG of Dublin HS #35 to13.
Cooks patiently waited for his time to come. It came in the short high school season when he showed that he’s a quality point guard who can successfully run an offense. He has the tools needed for the position. He’s a pass first type, he has the handles, and vision to make the right decisions with the ball. He attacks when he needs to, he has a decent jumper. He’s a top notch on ball defender.

Jenkins is as scrappy as any player you’ll see in NorCal. At 5’9 when he has the ball he’s in constant motion, pushing, passing, and aggressively attacking the paint from different angles on the court. He’s not afraid going inside to the land of bigs. He has a floater, jumper in the paint. He has a good set of handles. He plays with lots of energy.
