The new season is full of intrigue and excitement as teams are ready to have the opportunity to compete for a state championship. The 2022 class is primed for one final run and it has a group of players who are ready to breakout. Here are the top 2022 prospects set for a breakout.
Omarion Jett-Dobbs Omarion Jett-Dobbs 6'2" | CG St. Benedict's | 2022 State NJ , 6’2 CG St. Benedict’s
Jett-Dobbs may not start for the Grey Bees to open the season, but he will have a role for them very early. The 6’2 guard is a tough on-ball defender and knows how to get deflections. Jett-Dobbs attacks the basket strong and is unafraid of finishing through contact. He has a nice handle and does not make many bad decisions with the ball in his hands. Jett-Dobbs is a gritty, two-way guard prospect who does whatever it takes to win.
Braxton Jones Braxton Jones 6'0" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2022 State NJ , 6’0 PG Roselle Catholic
Jones has had multiple big games over the course of his varsity career, but has the opportunity to fully breakout for the Lions this year. The Trenton Catholic transfer has a quick release on his jumper and can knock down triples in bunches. Jones is more than just a shooter as he can also put the ball on the floor and finish around the basket. He moves exceptionally well off the ball, giving him the ability to play either guard spot. Jones is unafraid of taking big shots in big moments, which could lead to a big senior season.
Shy’heed Jenkins-Floyd Shy’heed Jenkins-Floyd PG Union City | 2022 State NJ , PG Union City
The Eagles took a big hit when Maurice Odum transferred to West Oaks Academy in Florida, creating a big opportunity for Jenkins-Floyd. He is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and knows how to push the pace in transition. Jenkins-Floyd has a good handle, which he uses to get into the lane to make plays. He is a pest on the defensive end as he moves his feet and has a knack for getting steals. Jenkins-Floyd has the opportunity for a breakout season as he looks to lead the charge for Union City.
Charles Anyichie Charles Anyichie 6'7" | PF Ranney School | 2022 State NJ , 6’7 PF Ranney
Anyichie will be tasked with being the big guy down low for the Panthers after the losses of Kyle Rhoden and Ryan Zan. The 6’7 forward plays with all out energy as he rarely takes a play off on either end of the floor. Anyichie attacks the glass on both ends of the floor and uses his athleticism to altar shots around the basket. He has a decent touch around the basket and is working on his range. Anyichie has the potential for a breakout 2021-22 season as he gets more looks on the offensive end.
Tommy Conniff Tommy Conniff 6'10" | C Oratory Prep | 2022 State NJ , 6’11 PF/C Oratory Prep
Conniff has the opportunity to explode this season as he gets to showcase his ability to impact the game in multiple ways. The 6’11 lefty has a good touch on his shot and his range extends out to the three-point line. Conniff can get position down low and sets good screens in the half court. He uses his length to block shots around the basket and is tough to keep off the glass. Conniff’s floor stretching ability is something that should help him in a big way this season.
