Here’s a look at a few of the top returning shooters from Western Kansas (in alphabetical order):
Nate Bowman, 5-foot-10 guard, 2022, Bucklin:
Not a name many know, Bowman hit 73 3-pointers as a junior. The junior hit a respectable 32% and produced a ton of points for the 1A Div. 1 team. He hit at least two 3-pointers in nearly every game last year, typically ringing up 5 or 6.
Alec Carlson Alec Carlson 6'1" | CG Pawnee Heights | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Pawnee Heights:
One of the top all-around scorers in the state, Carlson does it inside and out. The first-team 1A Div. 2 star shot 37% from behind the arc last season while also defending and rebounding at a high rate. This guy will be something to watch the next two years.
Britton Dutton Britton Dutton 6'0" | SG Argo Comm | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Ellinwood:
Not just one of the highest scorers in the state, Dutton is one of the most efficient. He shot 55% from the field and a crazy 44% from behind the arc, en route to a 23.7 point average as a sophomore. He has perfect form on jump shots moving in every direction.
Allen Martinez Allen Martinez 5'8" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2022, Lakin:
One of a group of fine guards at Lakin, Martinez is a tough, physical player who does a lot more than just score. He plays an athletic, up-tempo game that leads to a high percentage from the field – 64% last season. But when he lined up from behind the arc, he shot a stellar 42%.
Rogelio Ibarra, 5-foot-9 guard, 2023, Macksville:
What are they feeding the 2023 guards in central Kansas? Ibarra is yet another rising junior who can really shoot it, in addition to other things. Ibarra scorched the nets for 41% from deep, in addition to providing a lot of quickness and athleticism.
Ryle Riddlesperger Ryle Riddlesperger 6'2" | PG Hugoton | 2023 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2023, Hugoton:
Riddlesperger challenges himself by driving all over the state to play with top club teams. He will continue developing on the really nice sophomore season that saw him average 9 points for Hugoton. He canned 41% from deep last season. Riddlesparger is a team-first guy who moves the ball and doesn’t force shots.
