Continue ReadingIt was a busy 1st live period for PH NorCal, with all the live events going on in SoCal July 8-11, we managed to spend some time at the WCE Summer Classic, watching a quality group of NorCal 2023 and 2024 prospects play in a spirited contest. The game featured WCE NORCAL 15UAA against YBA Elite RIZE 2023. It was a close game, neither team really taking control, and a lot of back and fourth with good players on the court. This group played well.
Ahsan Huff Ahsan Huff 6'6" | PF Vanden | 2024 State CA-N 6’6 Forward of WCE NorCal 15 UAA Teevans (Vanden HS) 2024
Huff has made rapid improvement and is a rising prospect in his class. He’s a long armed athletic player with good movement on the court. He has good energy, and bounce to his game. He has improved his all-around skill set away from the basket, his handles to attack from the wings, an improving mid-range jumper, and running the court. He was quite active on the defensive end hauling in rebounds, and going after blocks.
Cabrayon Odom 6’6 PF of YBA Elite Rize 2023 (Antelope HS) 2023
Odom is a big strong player who works well in the post area. He’s not fast, kind of deliberate, his foot work could use some improvement, but, he is hard to handle in the post when he gets it going. He’s hard to get around, and doesn’t mind the contact. He’s strong enough to control the boards at this level. He did a good job rebounding the offensive boards, and using his body in the paint.
Jordy McKenzie 6’3 Guard of WCE NorCal 15 UAA Teevans (Pinole Valley HS) 2024
A good size guard who can handle the ball on the wings, and in transition. He’s athletic, and moves well on the court. He can beat his man off the dribble at times, he has good bounce on his mid-range jumper, and he’s always looking to be aggressive with the ball. He has good length to guard multiple positions away from the basket, and he’ll help out on the boards.
Nehemie Njomo 6’4 CG of YBA Elite Rize 2023 (Lincoln HS)
A thick body who did a good job of handling the ball in the open court, and showing some patience running half court sets. He played with good balance, made good passes, and moved without the ball. He proved to be hard to stop when he made up his mined to drive into the paint from the top and the wings. He got his share of rebounds.
Zion Wilburn 6’5 Forward of WCE NorCal 15 UAA Teevans (Salesian College Prep)
A long armed wiry prospect probably still growing. He has good upside to his game and an improving skill set. He was active in and around the post area on both ends, going after rebounds, defending, and altering some shots. He did handle the ball on the perimeter with some success trying to get his shot. He runs the court, and can finish above the rim.
Matthew Schroeder 6’1 Guard of YBA Elite Rize 2023 (Whitney HS)
Schroeder is a hard charging guard, he plays on go when he’s on the court. He’ll get up and down the court at a fast pace. He’ll attack the basket aggressively, and he’ll guard hard all the way up the court. He has confidence in his shot, and he’ll hit the 3pt shot in the corner and wings.
Mateen Rafiq 6’0 PG of WCE NorCal 15 UAA Teevan (El Camino HS)
Rafiq showed good ball handling, and patience running the teams offense. He’s a pass first guard with good vision and passing skills up top. He made good decisions with the ball. He passed up on the break and was always looking for an open teammate. He has a good shot when he decides to shoot.
