With over 45 new names in the class, it will take a few articles for us to highlight every new prospect in the rankings, but we are determined to do so! Here’s a look at part one!
Check out the full rankings here.
#6 Austin Ball | 6’5” SF | Miller School
Ball has already made a big splash since his decision to transfer from WV to Miller School and reclassify to the 2023 class, as the reigning Class 1 POY in WV has already picked up a number of offers, including West Virginia, since playing with the Mavs in the high school live period. At 6’5” he has good size and is a good athlete, he can absolutely light it up from deep and has great elevation on his shot and he can put it on the deck and create for himself and others.
#13 Evan Ramsey Evan Ramsey 7'0" | C Abingdon | 2023 State VA | 7’0” C | Abingdon
Ramsey came on the scene this year while helping to lead Abingdon to the Class 3 state championship before falling to Hopewell, and he’s had a great summer playing up with Big Shots Tri-Cities. The obvious thing you see with him is his size as he’s a legit 7’0” tall, he has good touch and can step out to the three-point line and he plays with a good motor and is able to play through contact in the paint to score and rebound.
#14 Judah Egbo Judah Egbo 6'7" | C Life Christian Academy | 2023 State VA | 6’8” C | Life Christian Academy
Egbo spent last season at Oak Hill where he played sparingly on one of the top teams in the country, but he came back looking like a much improved player who has improved in his timing, hands and athleticism. He was always a high motor guy but he plays with more purpose now, he’s way above the rim and is a big time shot blocker and he still has tons of room to improve on the offensive end with an extra year after reclassifying.
#16 Luke McEldon Luke McEldon 6'8" | C Potomac School | 2023 #239 Nation NLG | 6’8” C | Potomac School
McEldon also spent last season at Oak Hill with Egbo, and he announced he would reclassify and has looked very good for Team Loaded VA so far this season. The 6’8” big man is a throwback kind of post that can bury his man deep and score over either shoulder, he’s physical and a bruiser in the paint and he’s great on the glass and plays with a great motor on both ends.
#23 Leland Coleman Leland Coleman 6'6" | SF Trinity Episcopal | 2023 State VA | 6’5” SF | Trinity Episcopal
Coleman is a late bloomer that has grown quite a bit over the last few years, and he has great measurable as he has a 7’0” wingspan and good springs to go along with it. He’s a high motor guy who brings it on both ends of the floor, he’s defensive minded and improving as a shot maker and he’s a high academic kid who could go to any school in the country with his grades.
#24 AJ Wills AJ Wills 6'1" | PG S3 Academy | 2023 State VA | 5’11” PG | Life Christian Academy
Wills came on the scene this summer with Boo Williams 17U team, and he’s set to be one of the breakout players in the Richmond area in the next season. The 5’11” lead guard is lightning quick off the bounce and has a great handle that makes him very shifty, he’s tough nosed and sets the tone on both ends and he can score it from multiple levels as well.
#25 Justin Boggs | 6’2” CG | Paul VI
Boggs announced he’ll transfer to PVI from St. Andrew’s in Maryland, and he’s exactly what this young Panther’s group will need as he provides another shooter and experienced player who can step in and make plays immediately. Boggs is a strong and athletic combo that can play on or off the basketball, he shoots it consistently from deep with good range and gets hot quickly and he can attack the rim and finish through traffic and above the rim as well.
#29 David Solomon III David Solomon III 6'6" | C VA Academy | 2023 State VA | 6’6” C | VA Academy
Solomon decided to reclassify and take an extra year at VA Academy, where he’ll be able to work on his body and improve his overall skill set as well. He was one of the best public school players in the NOVA area over the past few years at Lake Braddock, and his mix of size and strength along with his surprising bounce at his size makes him a handful in the paint and very productive on both ends.
#41 Jadon Pace Jadon Pace 6'4" | SF Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA | 6’4” SF | Kecoughtan
Pace is a guy who could move up the rankings if he continues to improve and show consistency, as he has two traits that coaches love in his length and ability to shoot it from deep consistently. He’s a long 6’4” wing that projects as a 3 and d guy with his consistency and confidence from deep, his ability to use his length defensively to get deflections and he has plenty of room for growth and polishing moving forward.
