We will take a look at some of the standouts from across the country, starting with part one taking a look at the top prospects from the Pennsylvania and Maryland teams.
Daniel Skillings Daniel Skillings 6'5" | SG Roman Catholic | 2022 State PA | 6’7” WF | Philly Pride ’22
Skillings may have been one of the biggest stock risers this weekend, picking up multiple offers and solidifying himself as a high major prospect with his play. At 6’7” he’s big and strong and is an athletic finisher, he can make shots from deep with consistency and he can put it on the deck and is relentless as he comes at you time and time again. What really separates Skillings from other wings as talented as him is that he plays with a great motor, making the hustle plays like getting on the floor or getting back in transition, and he does it every time I’ve seen him on the floor.
Anthony Purnell | 6’0” PG | Philly Pride ’22
Purnell showed that he’s one of the more underrated guards in the mid-atlantic this past weekend, as he made winning plays on both ends consistently for his group. He’s very quick and a very good defender as he sits down and guards the ball but can also jump passing lanes for steals, and he’s able to turn defense into offense really quick in transition. He’s very quick off the bounce and explosive around the rim, he makes others better and he has that Philly toughness that you love out of their guards.
Kenny Jackson Kenny Jackson 6'3" | PG #23 Nation PA | 6’3” PG | We R 1 ’23
One of the most talented guards in all of UAA, Jackson’s stock is soaring as he continues to play well and show his development as a true point guard. He has a great frame and is an explosive athlete that can get to the rim at will, he has good vision and feel with the ball in his hands and he’s an excellent on ball defender. He continues to get better and better and his mix of playmaking as well as being a dynamic scorer makes him very tough to game plan for.
Jarace Walker | 6’8” PF | Team Thrill ’22
Widely considered a top 10 prospect in the country, Walker was fantastic throughout the weekend and is one of the biggest mismatches in the country. He has a great build and looks like a football player, he’s extremely explosive and he has guard skills as far as his ability to put it on the deck and shoot it from deep. He can play the three through five and guard almost all of the positions, he is a big time shot blocker coming help side and he is almost impossible to stop when he gets downhill.
Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD | 6’2” CG | Team Thrill ’22
Winborne was very impressive this past weekend with his ability to both score it and make plays for others while running a team and setting the tone on both ends of the floor. He’s highly skilled on the offensive end as he’s shifty off the bounce and has good vision, he can make shots from deep off the catch and he can finish through traffic as well. He’s a dual threat guard that can play both on and off the ball and score it and make others better with ease.
Trae English Trae English 5'11" | PG Baltimore Poly | 2021 State MD | 5’10” PG | Team Thrill ’22
English isn’t the biggest guy on this Thrill team but he was fantastic down the stretch for his team in multiple close games I watched them in. He’s lightning quick off the bounce and has a tight handle, he changes pace and directions well and he lives in the lane where he can make plays for others or finish with a good middle game. He sets the tone on both ends and is a very good on ball defender, and he will bring it every time he’s on the floor.
Cortez Johnson Cortez Johnson 6'7" | PF St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’7” PF | Team Thrill ’22
Johnson is a 2022 right now at St. France’s in Baltimore but all reports say that he’ll likely prep and go to the 2023 class where he’s very intriguing to high level programs. He’s a big time athlete that is explosive and quick off his feet, he has a great second jump and he’s able to play much bigger than his 6’7” size is. He has a good base skill set that includes the ability to step out and shoot it, he plays with a high motor and he has a lot of room to continue to get better.
Mike Williams Mike Williams 6'3" | CG Bishop Walsh | 2023 State #141 Nation MD | 6’3” CG | Team Thrill ’23
Williams is another intriguing prospect for the Thrill 16s group as he is a high motor and skilled guard that makes plays on both ends. He’s a gritty type of player that will get on the deck for loose balls and make the hustle plays, he thrives in the open floor where he can use his athleticism to finish at the rim and he always seemed to come up big when his team needed him to. He’s a little erratic at times but he’s a playmaker and has a lot of tools to work with moving forward.
