Unfortunately due to a previous game running late, I wasn’t able to scout TNBA -Cleveland like I had planned, but I did catch C2K 16 U and Nova-Schmitz 16 U, here were the top performers from those teams.
Anthony Mosley Anthony Mosley 6'3" | PF Lima Sr | 2023 State OH , 6’4 PF Lima Sr 2023: Mosley is 6’4 and didn’t attempt a 3-pointer or cross anybody up in either game we saw, yet still ends up on our top performers list. Mosley is the prime example of doing the dirty work and sticking to your role and excelling in it. Mosley isn’t the most talented offensive player on the roster, yet he embraces that. Mosley was relentless on the offensive glass and had tons of second chance points around the rim. Mosley always competes on both ends and you know what you’ll get out of him each time he touches the floor. One of my favorite competitors to watch this weekend.
CJ Hornbeak CJ Hornbeak 6'2" | SG Toledo St. John's | 2023 State OH , 6’2 SG Toledo St John’s 2023: Hornbeak continued his impressive summer with some high scoring games for C2K. Hornbeak made a handful of layups with his left hand, which is necessary for a below the rim finisher. Hornbeak was inconsistent from downtown, but provides good energy on defense and is typically in the right spots on that end as well. He might be a top scorer in the HS season, but for C2K his all around game is more on display and is a similar role to what colleges will ask him to play as an underclassmen.
Ryan Nutter Ryan Nutter 6'3" | PG Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH , 6’3 PG Dublin Jerome 2023: Nutter is potentially the best passer in the 2023 class in Ohio and was dropping dimes on Friday like usual. What I love as well about Nutter is his willingness to take a charge. As a ream Nova took probably around eight charges and Nutter had two or three himself. Nutter is the most well known prospect on his team and still insists on doing everything it takes to win. That sort of mentality is hard to find, but Nutter has it. It’s the intangibles that college programs will love with Nutter.
Grant Burkholder Grant Burkholder 5'9" | PG Newark | 2023 State OH , 5’9 PG Newark 2023: When I saw Burkholder in the HS season I saw the undersized floor general that was a gym rat and doing everything to compete. What I didn’t see was the potential scoring ability that Burkholder showed me on Friday. Burkholder is shooting the ball with more confidence from the outside and has a great floater game to make up for his lack of explosiveness around the rim. I expect Burkholder to take a steep scoring increase for Newark in the winter and establish himself as one of the better guards in central Ohio’s 2023 class. Burkholder also rebounds the ball exceptionally well for a 5’9 guard, not afraid to mix it up with the big guys for a loose basketball.
Caleb Miller Caleb Miller 6'1" | SG Thomas Worthington | 2023 MO , 6’1 CG Thomas Worthington 2023: Miller hit some big time outside shots today for Nova. I like how Miller moves without the basketball and has a quick release after the catch. Still fairly limited off the bounce, I’d like to see Miller become either better as a distributor or driver in his Junior season. A quality role player for Nova, Miller will be asked to take a lead role for Thomas Worthington after Jalen Sullinger Jalen Sullinger 5'11" | PG Thomas Worthington | 2021 State OH and Tyrese Hughey Tyrese Hughey 6'7" | PF Thomas Worthington | 2021 State OH graduated.
