As the month of July gets into full swing, the Prep Hoops Circuit heads to Birmingham, Alabama. This is the first of several Prep Hoops events in the Midwest as we converge onto the Grit Region Finals in Indianapolis at the end of the month. There were a ton of very intriguing games over the weekend, and now, let’s take a look at some of the 2023 Standouts from the state of Indiana.

Damarion Miller - 2023 PG - Warren Central (EG10 2023)

Miller is a very small point guard, but he can really make a lot of plays when on the basketball floor. He is incredibly shifty and has a smooth crossover. He also seemed to always make the right decision on his drives to the hole by finishing around contact and dishing to the open man. Miller also hit a nice pull-up mid-range. It was a pretty tough game for this EG10 squad, but Miller did show several bright spots to lead the way.

[player_tooltip player_id="1162739" first="Jason" last="Kobe"] - 2023 SG - Marquette Catholic (94 Feet Elite 2023)

Kobe is a smaller shooting guard who makes his living on the outside of the three-point arc. He is a knockdown shooter from anywhere on the floor. He hit a couple of threes from way downtown, and he hit a couple of mid-range jumpers as well. He was probably one of the better true shooters that I saw all weekend. Kobe can be a little too careless with the ball at times, but he sees the floor well, and he seems to know where the ball needs to go. He is a Division 3 prospect, and his shooting would be enough to make him a difference-maker from the get-go.

[player_tooltip player_id="1042493" first="D.J." last="Moss"] - 2023 SG - Gary 21st (94 Feet Elite 2023)

Moss is a bigger, physical shooting guard who loves to get to the rim. He always attacks strong, and he is a good finisher on the inside. Moss can also shoot it from all over the court, and he was able to get a couple of triples to fall for him, but his mid-range shot just wasn’t falling in this one. He is an extremely athletic guard who should be watched seriously by NAIA and Division 2 programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="935733" first="Bryce" last="Petty"] - 2023 PG - Park Tudor (EG10 2022)

Petty is a smaller guard who played up with EG10 2022 for most of the weekend. He is still a young point guard, but he makes a big impact on this EG10 squad. On the defensive end of the floor, Petty moves his feet very well and plays good man-to-man defense. He also has active hands and came up with a couple of steals. Petty also looks to get his teammates involved throughout the whole game. He is a good passer, but he can also shoot the ball from the outside when he is left open. He is going to be in store for a big junior season, and he will be a player to watch develop over the coming years.

[player_tooltip player_id="868227" first="Kamari" last="Slaughter"] - 2023 SG - Portage (94 Feet Elite 2023)

Slaughter is a bigger, physical shooting guard who loves to get to the rim. He attacks downhill, and with his good court vision, he has the ability to kick to the open shooter or finish in the lane. Slaughter does have a tendency to get out of control at times, but I think his decision-making has improved as he has gained experience, so this shouldn’t be much of a deterrent. On the defensive end, he moved his feet well, and he had a couple of nice rotations of help-side defense. Slaughter is a serious mid-major or high Division 2 prospect, and coaches should keep an eye on him during his junior season.
