Here are the Florida standouts:
Carl Cherenfant Carl Cherenfant 6'4" | CG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #68 Nation FL , 6’6″, 2023, Grassroots: Georgia Stars
Although Cherenfant was running with a Georgia squad, he gets his insane ability from his home state of Florida! Cherenfant is one of the best players in the country for the class of 2023, and this tournament definitely secured it for him. His mix of size, strength and skill made him one of the tournament’s biggest standouts. He was a menace getting downhill and was flying all around to catch lobs and put on a show for the sidelines. Cherenfant was able to put his entire skillset on display and was even more impressive at the point guard position, considering that’s not his primary position. His versatility definitely was the highlight of his game and he no doubt caught the eye of some college coaches throughout the weekend.
Nehemiah Turner Nehemiah Turner 6'8" | PF Auburndale | 2023 State FL , 6’7″, 2023, Grassroots: Team TMac
Turner’s team no doubt struggled as they tried to stay afloat in one of the tournament’s toughest divisions. Nevertheless, Turner was able to standout to the scouts on site. Turner’s size and height were immediate standouts for him, and while he’s not in the best of shape, it didn’t stop him from being an unstoppable force on the low block. He knows where to be on the floor and can finish over bigger and stronger defenders with his hardnosed offensive style. He can put points on the board and defend at a high level, as he showed all weekend.
Ericson Fleurima, 6’0″, 2023, Grassroots: Florida Express
Fleurima was one of the biggest standouts for the 16U’s, and he did it in an interesting fashion. His 6’ stature is indicative of high-quality guard play, but he was one of the most effective big men of the weekend. He’s an incredible athlete who was able to sky over defenders of all sizes to grab more rebounds than I’ve seen a player have in a long while. He’s an effective scorer in the paint, although most of his points come from putbacks and pick and roll action. He was an under-the-radar player who was one of my personal favorite guys to watch.
