Continue ReadingThe energy in the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center was crazy as every team in the 15U division was in place and ready to make their mark on day 2 of the Platform. While programs fought tooth and nail to make their case to be viewed as the top team in the division, the following players stood out.
Kieran Granville-Britten 6’8/220 C, Queen City Prophets c/o 2025
Kieran was a complete nightmare for opposing teams. He is the true definition of a big man on the court and thoroughly enjoys the advantages he has over most opposing Bigs. He was completely unstoppable in the post and on the boards, recording double-doubles in both games I saw him play. He also showed good footwork and timing on defense. On defense, he was isolated on ball screens by smaller players on plenty of occasions and was able to slide his feet and maintain active hands at a high level. At 6’8 and only 14 years old, he is going to cause plenty of problems on the prep scene in his home state of Ohio.
Bryce Mitchell 6’3/175 SG, KC Spurs Black
Extremely bouncy kid with a high level of skill. Bryce knows his role on the court, doesn’t try to do too much, and still makes a huge impact. He used his athleticism and long arms to disrupt passing lanes and get rebounds on the defensive end and offense, he finished at the rim and kept possessions alive with sheer will and activity. He also flashed a polished mid-range jumper with good lift and form that proved to be a lethal weapon.
Jaden Baker 6’0/170 PG, Spartans Elite
Jaden is the even keel floor general on a Spartans Elite team filled with personality and energy. He set the tone with heady plays and strong finishes at the rim showing good strength, quickness, and patience. He is the true definition of a combo guard showing an ability to be a coach on the floor and the glue that keeps his teammates locked in on both ends. He scored in bunches Saturday and lead his team in scoring as they mauled and blew out teams in both their games.
Noah Cutler 5’9/150 PG, Athletes of Influence
Noah was the most entertaining player of the day. The way he plays and carries himself speaks of one thing…swag. He dribbled circles around the defense with an elite combination of quickness and handles and got to any spot he wanted on the floor. His teammates knew to keep their heads on a swivel because his court vision and passing creativity constantly got them open looks. Noah is not just passing and dribbling either. He had the crowd going crazy on several reverse layups and a 3-point jumper with an arc so high, it felt like it was going to knock one of the civic center lights down before swishing through the net.
Andrew Crawford 6’5/160 SG, Pluto Prospects
Andrew may have been the most athletic kid I saw in the 15U division Saturday. He showed a sweet mid-range and 3-point jumper and in the open court, he was fantastic finishing high above the rim on multiple occasions. The one poor defender that jumped with him on the fast break was welcomed to his “Kodak” moment as Andrew posterized him with a one-handed dunk. He led his team in scoring and an impressive 3-0 day.
