They’ve earned their specific claims with consistent play and an obvious lean that makes their game standout. Meet the best of the best in our four categories: Best Athlete, Best Driver, Best Passer, and Most Physical.
Best athlete
JJ Hernandez
The young men from FOE Louisiana or Tarrant Elite might like a word with me after this, but Hernandez earned this spot on day 1 and never let it go. He was one of the few athletes in attendance that consistently finished above the rim. The Chicago native was a terror in transition showing off speed in his 6-6 frame. He’s more of a wing than a true big, but that didn’t stop him from swatting and altering shots during the three-day event.
Best Driver
Max Howery
Howery wins this title with a combination of quickness and strength. He’s able to blow by guards with a hesitation dribble and score before defenses adjust. Guys like Benjamin Price earned consideration, but it was Howery’s accuracy at the rim that sealed this title.
Best Passer
Eric Moore
This title was a two-man race between Mr. Moore and a high school quarterback. He takes the edge with his live dribble passing. The 2024 prospect hit guys in their shooting pocket and the ball got there fast. Whether it was in the half court or open court Moore finds teammates in stride. The assist numbers might not be there but the way he moves the ball that will change as his team progresses.
Most Physical
Troy Moses
In a field of burley forwards Moses takes the cake. He’s still raw, and that doesn’t stop him from being productive. The Oklahoma native causes contact more than it’s doled out leading to several and1s. He’s a strong offensive rebounder that keeps plays alive. Moses wants the contact and at this age level, it does little to stop him. Deandre Harper of Sal Elite made a claim for a close second with his game against Victory Academy Gold.
