RISE and All-In Athletics Put Up Fireworks Display at 8 AM
It was quite an offensive show to begin the 4th of July between these two Illinois squads. All In Athletics Kay Black won a tight one 85-80. They had quartet that pushed them over the line. Moravian Prep power forward Justin Banks is originally from Schaumburg and the four man who posted 18 points brings size, skill, and athleticism on both ends. His front court mate Zach Royster is a 6’6” post from Lindblom that was outstanding in the OT session. Drained several threes in the game and was efficient in the paint. Yorkville Christian two guard KJ Vasser scored 23 points in the victory. Used his athleticism in the open floor to destroy the defense like a running back hitting the hole. Chicago U-High 2022 shooting guard Ryan Duncan Ryan Duncan 6'2" | SG Chicago U-High | 2022 State IL played both on and off the ball displaying passing flair, range on his shot, and improved handles. On the other side for RISE DePaul Prep 2022 point guard Dajuan Bates Dajuan Bates 6'1" | PG De La Salle | 2022 State IL was electric. The wiry guard scored from all three levels with deep threes, baseline jumpers, and slick takes netting 24 points. Don Bosco Prep combo guard Chaz Harvey Chaz Harvey 5'10" | PG Brooks | 2021 State IL has elevated his stock this spring and a year at prep will continue that. Silky smooth guard drained a barrage of threes along with acrobatic layups for 24 points.
2024 Talent on Display in Fundamental U vs SWISH Basketball Chicago
This was a fun contest between a pair of talented 15U squads. SWISH recorded the 59-55 win. Defensively there are so many intriguing qualities when it comes to Glenbard North small forward JJ Hernandez JJ Hernandez 6'6" | PF Glenbard North | 2024 State IL . Shot blocker, uses length laterally, and gets in passing lanes. Showed good passing feel as well. Simeon wing Richard Lindsey is a slashing wing that defends at a high level as well. St. Ignatius combo guard Phillip Erickson is a plus shooter from three with a crafty game. Fundamental U was pushed by Glenbrook North 6’6” small forward Pat Schaller who has plus size and can really get to the rack. Carmel guard Josh Stewart is a thick bodied guard that who is a bucket getter. Also was intrigued by Libertyville’s Jacob Bahrani with his slick scoring southpaw game.
M14 Knocks Off Mac Irvin Fire 17U
Notch another huge win for M14 over the weekend. They proved they can play with the best in pool A including a victory over Mac Irvin Fire 70-56. Balanced effort again. Early on Patrick Robinson Patrick Robinson 6'4" | SG Oswego East | 2022 State IL . set the tone with his physicality and power game scoring off the bounce en route to 12 points. Then Marmion Academy 6’2” two guard Sean Kavanaugh went off for an incredible 21 points with the majority of them being from distance. He was unconscious! Naperville Central combo guard Jonah Hinton Jonah Hinton 6'1" | PG Naperville Central | 2022 State IL helped himself this weekend establishing a reputation as an excellent small college prospect recording 16 points as the 6’1” rising senior put it on the deck and was all over the floor defensively. West Aurora 2022 combo forward Ty Rogers Ty Rogers 6'7" | PF West Aurora | 2022 State IL drained feathery threes along with using his athleticism on both ends. Perimeter Prospects Make Noise in Full Package vs Fundamental U 16U
Full Package scored a 61-48 victory over Fundamental U on Sunday in 16U play. Full Package has one of the best 16U groups we have seen. Skilled passers and shooters all over the floor. New Trier guard Jake Fiegen Jake Fiegen 6'3" | SG New Trier | 2023 State IL did his usual thing knocking down threes and the gritty guard hit the glass very well too. The Lemont twins Matas Castillo and Rokas Castillo Rokas Castillo 5'11" | PG Lemont | 2023 State IL also did a lot of damage from their point guard spots with crisp passing and creative scoring. Grayslake Central 5’10” point guard Dennis Estepp caught our eye as a sharp shooting lead guard with range.
Pair of Young Two Guards Duel in Mac Irvin Fire vs Team Ten Jabari Parker
Evaluating young prospects early in their development is always fun. We witnessed the arrival of Kenwood 2025 shooting guard Bryce Heard as a potential star on Sunday. We had previously seen him with his high school team playing limited minutes, but playing up for the Mac Irvin Fire 15U the incoming freshman was able to show his complete arsenal. Wow! Such a fluid and effortless bucket getter. Very projectable prospect that got to the cup at will with easy acceleration for explosive finishes. Also has a feathery shot from deep. Still EXTREMELY early, but strong contender for #1 spot! His high school teammate 2025 Aleks Alston also has a ton of long term developmental upside with his long and rangy frame and a sweet lefty stroke from three at 6’5”. Kenwood 2024 power forward Calvin Robbins once again brought the energy and motor on the glass. Explosive dunks from the Kenwood sophomore. On the Team Ten Jabari Parker it was DePaul Prep 2024 wing Payton Kamin Payton Kamin 6'7" | SF Worcester Academy | 2025 State NLG that showcased his immense talent. The plus sized wing with length can really stroke it from deep knocking in four triples in the game along with multiple aggressive takes off the bounce for 23 points. A new name that jumped off the floor to us was Ameer Morrow from Simeon. The 6’5” post is the younger brother of former Wolverines star Ed Morrow. Another high energy undersized post that hit the offensive glass, finished inside, and swatted shots.
Illinois Jaguars Prospects Shine in Win over Full Package
The Jaguars showed out in our first look at them this spring/summer in a 50-34 win over Full Package. Whitney Young rising seniors Marcus Overstreet Marcus Overstreet 6'8" | C Whitney Young | 2022 State IL and Jordan Streeter Jordan Streeter 6'6" | SF Whitney Young | 2022 State IL were the catalyst. Overstreet is a prospect we felt even at the time we probably under ranked and we were right. The 6’9” five man has super long arms and a great frame. Rebounds very well in his area and is quick with his second jump. At his best in the high/low and getting second chance points. Went for 15 points in the win. Streeter is an uber bouncy wing that plays above the rim with dunks and is at his best in transition. He had 12 points. Also Lincoln Park 2022 small forward Chris Hammonds brought it on both ends converting steals into jams. For Full Package reclass big man Ola Ajiboye Ola Ajiboye 6'8" | PF Evanston | 2021 State IL who is headed to Don Bosco Prep displayed a stronger frame and as always he impacted the game on the defensive end contesting shots and hit a mid-range jumper. Thick bodied unsigned senior Bo Hubbard Bo Hubbard 6'0" | SG Glenbrook South | 2021 IL drained an array of threes per usual.
Duo Flash for Illinois Storm 17U
We caught first half action of the Illinois Storm 17U contest on Sunday afternoon. Marquese Dotson was interesting as a 6’4” strong bodied and high-motor post. The undersized big man has bounce on the glass and finishing. Deon Bomar from Hinsdale South is a small guard that is slick with the rock in his hands.
Gallo Sports Impresses in W over Illini Magic
Second half of this game was dominated by Gallo Sports. The Wisconsin squad had a pair of prospects that led them to the win. Point guard Caden Lecce is a crafty ball handler that has creativity finishing around the hoop with nifty layups, can hit an open three, and is a nice passer. He had 21 points. Darrien Long presents a physical frame and superior strength. And his hops were…..ridiculous! Best dunker we saw all weekend as in the second half he hammered in a pair of alley-oops that were SportsCenter Top 10 worthy. He had four total slams in the second half with each being better than the previous for 16 points. Illini Magic star Joseph Fitch Joseph Fitch 6'8" | PF Christian Homeschool Assn. | 2022 IL is heading into July as the single biggest hidden gem in the state of Illinois. The 6’8” 2022 four man is an athletic shot blocker, rim runner, and showed a much better shot than we had previously seen. Could very well soar into the top 30 overall. Low-major and mid-majors should be on him. Uncommitted future JUCO star Bennie Slater Bennie Slater 6'5" | SF Springfield | 2021 State IL didn’t do much of his usual passing rather using his physical gifts swatting shots and getting downhill for scores. Mason Watson is also an uncommitted senior who drained five triples in the first half.
Small College Gems All Over in Illinois Outwork vs Illinois Drive Clash
Lots of sleeper prospects emerged in this game. Illinois Outwork won a high scoring contest 91-71. Their frontline jumped off the floor at us. Morton 6’5” 2023 power forward Victor Garrett has a college ready body and knows how to deploy it. Scored on a right handed hook, touch finishing inside, and spin moves. Also hit the glass. North Lawndale 2022 post Vincent Mayes opened the game with a backdoor alley-oop showing off his vertical. Outside of that he was most effective with his rebounding. Morton point guard Eliseo Gonzalez is a high IQ 2022 floor general that directs his teammates and runs the show. His high school backcourt mate 2023 point guard Adrian Anderson threw a couple nice dishes of his own along with hitting jumpers and floaters. The Illinois Drive backcourt of Javon Barnett and Ramon Yarbrough had it working in the first half. Barnett is a 6’0” two guard in the 2023 class that can drain shots from distance. Yarbrough hails from OPRF and the 5’9” rising senior point guard flies around on the defensive end and loves to make plays in the paint offensively.
