The quick 5-foot-10, 150-pound point guard just finished up a solid junior campaign with Churchill and he’s suited back up in an Elite 24 uniform all set to run the show. He and his teammates opened up the month playing at the Battle in Seattle in Centralia for a few days and Morgan is excited about what lies ahead.
“It feels great getting out here, traveling and competing with all my friends and teammates from Oregon,” Morgan said. “I’m excited and it’s amazing experience.”
Morgan picked up right where he left off with Elite 24 in the spring as the team’s de facto leader at the point. At the event, he was quick with the basketball, finishing plays himself or finding teammates for scores, and also wreaking havoc on the defensive end. From a skills standpoint this summer, he’s keeping it simple with improvements.
“I want to improve in every area so that college coaches can see out there,” Morgan said. “I believe everyone can be more consistent with their jumpshot or with less turnovers.”
Morgan knows that this month will be key with his recruitment. He currently holds an offer from Bryant and notes that he continues to hear from some other D-I schools as well as other levels, so he’s keeping everything open.
“Hopefully this month of July will help a lot,” Morgan said. “I can show them that I’m ready to compete and be a part of their program. It’s going to be whatever fits – my dad always tells me that if a college wants you they’ll come and find you. So if it’s D-II, D-III, whatever – I’ll be ready to play.”
Elite 24 will compete on the UA Rise circuit (under the name TRD Basketball) and their next stop will be the Atlanta area. From there it will be tournaments in Dallas, Las Vegas, and then Indiana and every stop along the way Morgan has a goal.
“I just want to get better as a team,” Morgan said. “I’ve been with these guys for a long time and this is our last AAU season. So I want to go out like a punch, showing that we’re one of the best teams in Oregon. And personally, I just want to be a better player, a better leader. Because this is my team and I’ve got to be the leader, so that’s what I’m working on.”
“We have some big tournaments and we’re going to try and win as many games as we can,” Morgan continued. “But if we lose, we’re going to compete and become better players because that’s what AAU is all about.
Morgan currently ranks as the #2 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
