That has been the case with Mason VanBeenen Mason VanBeenen 6'9" | PF West Linn | 2022 State OR ever since he entered high school at West Linn. But this year, the on-court production started to match the vast potential the rising senior has always had. VanBeenen now enters the month of July of AAU basketball with Elite 24 coming off a solid 2021 campaign with the Lions.
“I think it went really well and that was probably my favorite team to ever play on,” VanBeenen said. “It was a really good year and I think we would have gone pretty far if we did play a normal season. Being in the gym a lot working on my off hand and working on my jumpshot, my game has come along pretty well. I’ve been working in the gym every day, all day basically.”
On the year, VanBeenen emerged as an inside force for West Linn – especially on the defensive end. He ranked as the top shot-blocker in 6A at over 3.5 blocks per game and offensively, was extremely efficient inside shooting over 60 percent from the field. College programs have always had an eye on VanBeenen and in addition to continuing to talk with a number of different programs at the D-I and D-II levels, he recently also attended elite camps at Seattle University and Seattle Pacific.
“The camps were really good,” VanBeenen said. “It was really competitive and the guys played really hard there, just because they were in front of college coaches. Guys were working really hard.”
VanBeenen is hopeful some offers pop up this summer as he plays with Elite 24. The team got off to a 3-1 start at the Battle of Seattle in Centralia, and VanBeenen was doing his thing – blocking shots and showing aggressivenes going to the hoop on the offensive end.
“You could tell that everyone got better, with high school season and being in the gym a lot more,” VanBeenen said. “We’re still working on some stuff getting some plays in but I think we’ll be pretty good moving forward starting with Atlanta.”
VanBeenen currently ranks as the #7 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
