Continue ReadingOver the next few days, I’m going to take a look at the top 15-to-20 players in our 2022 MD/DC player rankings and break down the success they’ve had this summer and include any recruiting scoops that I know of. With July being a month of chaos within the recruiting world, these updates could change, but as of right now, this is what I’ve gathered from my findings. We already broke down the top five prospects, so let move onto No. 6-10.
Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD | 6’3 | Gilman/Team Thrill
Winborne is coming off of a productive weekend in Atlanta at the UAA’s first live session for July. The dynamic 6-foot-3 lead guard continues to polish his overall game where he’s a threat as a scorer, passer and play maker. Defensively, he’s going to compete no matter who he’s lined up against. He’s taken visits to Northwestern, Rutgers, Harvard, St. Joseph’s and Penn, but his recruitment remains open. If he continues his productivity throughout this month, don’t be surprised if several more schools try to get involved.
Christian Watson Christian Watson 6'6" | SF St. John's | 2022 State #121 Nation MD | 6’7 | St. John’s (DC)/ DC Premier
Watson was a name that caught fire for the month of June. His size, skillset and versatility support any argument for the high major programs that have entrenched themselves within his recruitment. Watson announced an final eight schools including Marquette, Providence, Xavier, Rutgers, Georgetown, Miami, VCU, Penn State recently. Florida offered Watson earlier this week and reports are that he will add the Gators to his final list as well.
Tyson Commander Tyson Commander 6'4" | SG The John Carroll School | 2022 State #203 Nation MD | 6’4 | John Carroll/Team Melo
I recently caught up with Commander to discuss his month of June and where his recruitment currently stands. The 6-foot-4 southpaw used the June live period to show off his developed game off the dribble. Known for his long-range shooting ability, Commander is looking to prove that he’s much more than that in order to add to his worth. Iona has emerged as the program that has been in touch most consistently, but a few other mid-major programs that I’ve spoken with are keeping an eye on his production and play throughout the month of July.
Elijah Jones Elijah Jones 6'8" | C Mt. Zion Prep | 2022 State MD | 6’8 | Mt. Zion Prep/Team Takeover
Jones is coming of an impressive junior campaign with Mt. Zion and has been playing with Team Takeover this spring and summer. The AAU stage can be challenging for bigs to make a huge impact offensively considering how perimeter-oriented the game has become, but Jones still makes his presence known with his motor and rebounding skills. He also knows how to play off talented guard such as Michigan commit Dug McDaniel and finish consistently around the rim. Hampton and La Salle are two programs to watch in regards to Jones.
Cesar Tchilombo Cesar Tchilombo 6'9" | C John Carroll | 2022 State MD | 6’9 | John Carroll/Global Squad
You won’t find many bigs that play as hard as Tchilombo does. His endless motor and willingness to do anything it takes to put his team in a position to win was clear during John Carroll’s run to the BCL title this past winter. He caught the eyes of many programs during the June live period, but Siena and Mount St. Mary’s are the two school to watch, especially if Tchilombo cannot rack up anymore offers this month.
