Now Trevon Hamilton Trevon Hamilton 6'2" | PG Beaverton | 2022 State OR is ready to showcase himself on the national level. The shifty 6-foot-2 floor leader is planning on running with International Elite in a couple of tournaments in July, all while also playing with his Beaverton teammates in summer league, building off what was a special junior season in 2021 where he and his squad captured the Red Bracket title during culmination week.
“It felt good as Grant, Sherwood, and Roosevelt were good teams,” Hamilton said. “Roosevelt was the game of my life – I was so happy that we won. They had Raysean (Seamster) and Terrence (Hill) – Terrence is the best freshman I’ve ever seen. That tournament determined if we were just one-hit wonders or the real deal, and we were the real deal.”
Individually, Hamilton earned First Team All-Metro League honors while averaging 8 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals – the latter two numbers ranking among the best in the state.
“Scoring-wise it wasn’t pretty at all for me,” Hamilton said. “But it doesn’t really matter when I get steals on the defensive end and some assists help the offense and win some games.”
Hamilton was originally only planning on playing with Beaverton during summer league but connected with International Elite who was looking to add a point guard. He ran with the squad during the Battle in Seattle tournament a couple of weekends ago and he felt it was a good fit.
“When I first came in, they saw me as a star player for their squad,” Hamilton said. “The team is good and I like the players – I know them from school ball and I feel like I fit in pretty well. I’ve just had to catch up really fast with their game. (At Beaverton) I just throw it up to Dane (Erikstrup) but I play really fast with this team and I like it.”
With International Elite, Hamilton certainly has been a pass-first point guard getting it to his many talented teammates. But he knows what he needs to do in order to catch the eyes of coaches and he’s focused on getting that done. “I want to show them that I can shoot as I really didn’t have a good shooting percentage during the season,” Hamilton said. “I’ve got to keep getting in the gym and keep shooting.”
Also a soccer star at Beaverton, Hamilton notes that he’s still undecided about which sport to pursue at the college level and is keeping all of his options open. International Elite next plays in an event in Kansas City this weekend. Hamilton currently ranks as the #26 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
