The all-around 6-foot-3 combo guard certainly played well during the event and has established himself as one the top players in the Class of 2025. He played well enough to attract the attention of one college coach to give him his very first college offer.
“It was great to get an offer from the University of Portland,” Boe said. “It’s nice that the coaching staff believes in me and I’m going to keep working hard.”
Boe earned the offer from Portland head coach Shantay Legans after the latter spotted him playing with the Oregon Prospects 2025 squad. It’s a team that played up an age level at the tournament in 15U and did well.
“It was just good to play against good competition and get to know the guys on this team,” Boe said. “We’re kind of a new team and it was good to get the chemistry up, play with the guys, and have fun.”
During the tournament, Boe was dominant. There’s no question he currently has a physical advantage over other players his age and one year older, but he’s also extremely skilled. In the game we watched him play he was knocking down outside shots and really getting to the hoop, creating for both himself and for others.
“I think I see the floor really well and I’m a good passer when I drive to the hoop,” Boe said. “But I’m still becoming a better defender and a better shooter.”
For old school Oregon high school fans, Boe is the son of former Beaverton standout Brent Boe, who played Division I basketball at San Jose State. “He’s been the guy since day one and he’s really been helping me,” Boe said. “He’s the reason where I am today.”
Boe will finish out the summer with Prospects 2025 in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Summer Championships, once again playing 15U. He then looks forward to the fall, where he’ll be a freshman at Mountainside. “I really like the coaching and the players are really good,” Boe said. “It’s going to be fun.”
