This past season, varsity newcomers such as Austin Maurer Austin Maurer 7'0" | C Cascade Christian | 2024 State #209 Nation OR and Jackson Weiland suited up for the first time and in 2021-22 there will be another rising freshman joining the mix. Boden Howell Boden Howell 6'3" | CG South Medford | 2025 State #394 Nation ID will be making his debut for South Medford in the fall and the smooth 6-foot-3 combo guard will be doing so with an early college scholarship offer in hand.
Last weekend, Howell and his Oregon Prospects 2025 teammates played at the 14U level and captured the title at the Cali-Live Summer Showcase. This past weekend, the team played up at 15U and performed well.
“It was a bigger challenge against bigger kids,” Howell said. “So we had to fight to get more rebounds and get tougher.”
Howell did his part during the event. He showed off a silky smooth jumper and a good feel for the game and felt good about what he was able to do.
“I’m a combo guard that can shoot it and can take it off the dribble,” Howell said. “I definitely need to get stronger for my game, so where I am weight wise I can always get in the gym and get bigger.”
Thanks to his play, Howell built up some buzz and Portland Pilots head coach Shantay Legans made it a point to watch him play. Not long afteward, Howell heard what might as well be the news of his life to this point.
“I got offered by Portland and I feel blessed,” Howell said. “It’s a great opportunity.”
It’s so early in the process that Howell hasn’t even given the recruiting process any thought yet. That time will surely come over the next four years. After Prospects 2025 plays in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Summer Championships, Howell will suit up with the South Medford Panthers and he’s ready for that challenge.
“It should be fun and I can’t wait,” Howell said. “It’s going to be a good time.”
