Here are my top 17U guards.:
Elijah Knudsen Elijah Knudsen 5'10" | CG Mead | 2022 State CO | 5’10″ PG | PSB | Mead High School
Knudsen is a very talented point guard with explosive ability. When I say explosive ability I mean he can change the game instantly with a barrage of three’s, a tough drive and finish, a steal or defensive stop, and even with a dunk. Knudsen has all the tools of a very talented player. His biggest attribute is his shooting ability from way downtown. There were several games I watched him drain three from very deep range. When he gets his shot going he is a game changer. At times he forces the shot and plays a little out of control but it is rare and for the most part he is very under control and reliable. He is also very good at facilitating for his teammates and draws a lot of attention on the floor which enables him to get his teammates going. He will be a senior next year and has already committed to play for Mesa State and I see why they were so interested in this very talented player.
Aidan Kuhl Aidan Kuhl 6'0" | SG Rocky Mountain | 2022 State #245 Nation CO | 6’1″ CG | PSB | Rocky Mountain High School
Kuhl is part of the backcourt duo with Knudsen, but is a very skilled player in his own right. Kuhl is a shooter. While he has the ability to finish at the basket his biggest weapon is his shot. He has the ability to drain it from three or hit a midrange shot. There were several games in which he put his team on his back and knocked down jumper after jumper. His game doesn’t stop there though. He also is a very good defender. Kuhl is a bit on the skinny side and has the frame to bulk up, as he is heading into his senior season I’m excited to see his development and growth.
Sam Howery Sam Howery 6'1" | PG St. Mary’s | 2022 State CO | 6’2″ PG | Pluto | St Mary’s High School
Howery is an all purpose guard/player. He does everything most players don’t like to do. He hustles all over the floor and that is what stood out most to me. He changes the game with his ability to fight for loose balls, get a rebound, create a steal, or drive and finish when his team needs it most. As a result he is very heady as he is aware of what is needed for his team and seemed to almost always deliver. Keep an eye out for this senior to be as he has a bright future ahead of him.
Kaleb Kimaita | 6’2″ CG/PG | Mayhem/Mustangs Select Basketball | Horizon High School
Kimaita is my only under 17U guard in my top guards. The reason is he has a tremendous upside. Kimaita has a very long body frame and causes many issues as a defender because of his length and height. He has a very good drive and finish game and once he can finish his drives with a dunk watch out! He is very close as he finished many of his drives above the rim but just needs a little more spring to flush it on a consistent basis. He has the frame to add muscle without losing anything in his game. I would like to see him be a little more consistent with his jumper but with some added muscle he can finish in traffic, above the rim and knock down his outside shot he has next level talent. He is only heading into his sophomore season of High School ball so remember his name as I’m sure we will hear more from him in the future. Excited to see his growth as a player!
Shadi Abdelrahman Shadi Abdelrahman 5'10" | PG Perris | 2022 CO | 5’9″ PG | Gamepoint | Perris High School
Abdelrahman is another very explosive point guard who can also flush it at 5’9″. That gives you an idea of his explosiveness. While he is a high riser his best skill is his ability to juke and finish at the basket. He is extremely shifty and often blew by his defender like they were standing still. Once he blew by his defender he had great court vision and involved his teammates for easy buckets. He plays in the very talent rich state of California but I’m excited to see what his future holds and to follow his growth.
